Volvo 5 cylinder torque converter autos confined to history

If you've seen that video of the BMW X5 hitting a barrier at 50mph and then falling 25 foot off an overhead motorway onto its roof and driver walks away, I'm 100% glad cars are safer for the sake of it.

It's primary safety which counts more for me - and anyway, the Royal Navy tested 2cvs in the 50s with 25' drops with little or no damage to the vehicles (the Land-Rovers broke at 5 feet). Drop a 2cv from 25' upside down and it would no doubt turn the right way up due to it's centre of mass, like a cat does.

If you drop an early '80s VW from over five foot off the ground Burt Kwok will appear and drive it away.

Meanwhile - back in the real world !
