Despite living only about 20mins away from this place for 4 years, I've been totally unaware of it's existence! Fascinating place, and got some cracking events planned for this year. Hopefully, some of you will appreciate the non automotive shite.

I've had an interest in most things at one time or another. Seems to be only things that run on land though. Although I can appreciate boats & planes, I can't claim to have ever been 'interested' in them...

Posted

Diesel half way through the rub down is indeed a 31. Identifiable by the "drop" in the body between the bogies.

Ta! Good to know my memory's not failing me yet!Nowt worse than a body drop between bogies!

In my case, it's almost anything old and mechanical, thanks to my dad, who was a Mech Eng lecturor at Leeds Uni. My real passion though is WW11 aircraft, closely followed by old motors, then steam locos!

The possibly derelict ones are most likely to be HNRCs motley collection of locos awaiting stripping or restoration for mainline use! The electrics (89001 etc are the AC Loco Groups very professional outfit!). Nice spots, I only recently hung up my anorak but it appears to have ventured out again :oops: !m0rris

This pic might get some juices flowing.....shite on all sides. Bonus points for the brown Aggro `state and the lime flavoured Ital???

Wahey, cheese sandwich time! That sorry looking diesel loco named Charybdis is indeed a class 31, number is 31128.

I'm shocked by the state of 60532 'Blue Peter' though, I saw her pass through Welwyn Garden City some years back and she was immaculate then. How sad to her in such a sorry state.

My brother used to be a driver for British Rail and I have many wonderful memories of days spent at work with him in the summer holidays.

Don't worry about Blue Peter. I went back for a good look at the photo and A good sanding has been given ready for a repaint. Thanks for going there 55bloke , it's a bit far from here !!I love threads like this. Nobody gets upset because it isn't about 1990 Nova turbo's :):)

Blue Peter is allegedly there for overhaul before use on the N.Y.M.R., which would be amazing to see, especially if Nigel Gresley is still there!

I can't make out the registration above lower rear window to confirm, but the double decker will be a Daimler Fleetline (the 'bonnet' is wider). Back end of an Atlantean looks like this

the engine covers didn't tend to stay closed for very long!

Reg No is UWA 154 S. The other 2 are F 724 LRG and E 64 WDT.

Ok you win. Doesn't matter how big one's anorak appears to be, there's always someone with a bigger one!:lol:

Although saying that, I may be a victim of Dinky's own mistake here because one of my favourite bus models was the Dinky 'Leyland Atlantean' which I swear had an engine cover / back end resembling that green Fleetline which is where I got the idea that that's what an Atlantean looks like. Subsequent models from EFE show it to be as you say but I never shook off the idea that they looked like that. When I lived up north & visited Stockport where my dad worked at the time, the old GM buses looked just like that Dinky Atlantean too which must have meant they were Fleetlines. I liked the fact I had a model bus that looked just like those real ones (before I got heavily into collecting bus models)

The internet has proved to be as useful a tool for bus-spotters as it has for porn addicts. A quick google search of the reg no:

Love the shot of it when new. Does the destination board read New Whittington? If so, it's still only about 5 miles from it's original destination!

Fantastic pics. As far as the (one and only) Class 89, I once saw it, in service pulling a Pre-class 91 intercity (a real intercity, non of this GNER bollox) at about 70mph through Outwood station between Leeds and Wakefield. At the time I was well into trains, and see that in service was a very special treat 8) Unfortuanately, im too young to remember the Deltics out on the open rails, Ive only ever seen one at York Railway Museum about 15 years ago.D

Back in the early 90's, I lived at Loftus in Cleveland for a bit and there were still Deltics in service on the line that ran by the town. I think they served the British Steel plant or maybe Boulby Potash Mine.

Posted

The last deltics ran in 1982 so must have been something else. They are cool though I saw one on the main line on a rail tour last year.. Loud! 8) I'm not sure that all this train chat is a good idea on autoshite... the occasional thread is all good but theres more and more creeping in and its not really what the forum is about!

Posted

My bad. Did a liitle research and it was class 37's that were running on that line. Found some good pics...

Doesn't really bother me about it being off topic. There's plenty of other off topic stuff posted on here which isn't even remotely related to things with engines and wheels.

I was also witness to the Class 89 in action, stood I think on the platform of Hadley Wood. It rushed through the station with me looking gobsmacked! In it's GNER colours, but to be honest the 89 seems to look smart in whatever colours it's adorned with.

Me neither, I've only seen them in action on You Tube or on train videos. Must admit, they don't sound like how I thought they would with that humming sound, thought they'd be a more diesel like chug or growl!

I thought we were above all that sort of stuffiness on ths forum, I thought we had a laid back, anything goes sort of attitude with cars being the common ground that brought us together / we share!

3 train related threads and they trouble you? I haven't seen anyone else complaining. If you don't like the thread topic, don't read it. Simple as!
