explosive-cabbage Posted December 8, 2015 Author Posted December 8, 2015 Leaving the 106 standard I think, its a nice little motor and goes suprisingly well. There is loads of grip, it is abit sluggish uphill but you can cover some ground if you keep momentum up! Lacquer Peel and KruJoe 2
KruJoe Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 True dat. The long-travel suspension really helps you maintain momentum on our sort of roads. Have you closed a deal on the blue rocket yet?

I've just had it running and its blown oil out of the intercooler pipes all over me, the car, and the parents lovely shiny white camper van parked next to it. Leaking oil from somewhere down round the turbo too, making a hissing/squirting noise. Big puddles. Might need a third turbo.
Lacquer Peel Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 ^Balls. Are you going to see how long the Lucas pump lasts in the 106 or swap the Saxo's Bosch pump in as soon as you can?

I mean standard other than the Bosch pump swap, and possibly a new drivers seat as this one is a bit twisted towards the door. Might look out for a fix for the slightlu leaky sunroof too. And swap the current Mercedes radio out for my X-Plod CD and AUX player thats in the 205. It would look great on the 205's white Rallye wheels too, but I don't think there would be as much grip in the corners on wider tyres (less ground pressure). Would have liked to fit the power steering pump from the Saxo too but I've had a look this morning and it includes electricity so I'm scared already. Will probably benefit from a service, it sounds awful and clattery in the mornings when cold, and probably hasn't had oil or filters recently as it has been stood for 18months.

Yeah I may run this on derv for a while until I get my head around the TUD deisel engines, there is no rush for a pump swap, I'm not doing big milage at the moment, and its always a risk running an unknown engine and fuel system on veg for the first time. The thing uses barely any fuel and besides, the 205 is taking up space in the shed so wont have any space for a couple weeks.
Lacquer Peel Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 I think TUDs have adjustable tappets so check the valve clearances if it's tappy. If you're careful I think a Lucas will chug away on a veg mix quite happily, I got 9000 miles out of a Lucas pumped Rover 218D through the winter, and I wasn't careful, 100% veg at all times.

If it's just a simple glass sunroof like the Escapade's swing the open/close lever until it's nearly vertical, it holds the glass closer to the seal! The Rallye wheels will be fine if they've got decent tyres on them, too. explosive-cabbage 1
Rusty_Rocket Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 TUD5 has shims for valve clearances. Unless they've closed up and stopping it from starting from cold, leave well alone, it's a cam-out job really.I did mine last year and went a bit ott with the gaps!
explosive-cabbage Posted December 8, 2015 Author Posted December 8, 2015 Thanks for the info... I would rather not risk veg till I have a box of filters and have studied the Haynes Manual from front to back, god knows how much crappy derv wax there is built up in the lines from years of doing low milage and being stood still, and knowing my luck recently it will all just get flushed into the injectors! More on the 205.... I have swapped the oil feed line for another, as I found there was a slight leak at the port into the turbo. The turbo is shifting a lot of air now even at idle as it has a KKK K14 inducer wheel (from a 1.9 XUD) and a Garett Gt2560 compressor wheel (from a Volvo 850 2.3TDI) so the turbo is 'geared up' if you like, by having a larger than standard compressor wheel. Should go well. John F and KruJoe 2
Arthur Foxhake Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Dont throw it all in the bin and look for a new turbo before kleaning out the interkooler and pipework. The old turbo blow would have left lots of oil in the system if it blew as spektakularly as it did and will need a flush. Should be fine after. (yes keyboard still fukked.) explosive-cabbage 1

When I first re-started the 205 I had put all the intake back together, and after 30 seconds of running then engine started to run away on itself again, luckily I was quick and managed to stall it using the handbrake and dropping the clutch in reverse gear. There was so much oil left in the intercooler it started to burn it as fuel causing a run-away! I took intake manifold pipe off and ran it again, and it blew the oil out the intercooler, all over me and the car and the parents motorhome As you suggest I will flush out the inducton system before running it again!
