Yet another red discovery joined the fleet

After suffering from a serious case of "Post epic collection depression" and a worse case of "Mondayitis" I've decided there is only one solution and that's to arrange to buy and collect another car.

Details are sketchy at the moment, but national security permitting it will involve a walk, 2 trains and a petrol station.

I know the destination of this collection, and would be surprised if it doesn't contain some or all of the following:

Separatists

Radicalists

Fundamentalists

Mentalists

Chavs

Mongs

Pies

Threat level: GLi, no airbags, aftermarket central locking.

The only bonus is that this mission is so perilous, the Salvation Army and WI should keep away

The train is riddled with chavs and foreigners

I have checked www.aso.com for you.

AutoShite  Office says to watched for sellers on Ebay. They may lie about stuff they are selling and may come from dubious areas. Do not go alone to collect chod, always in pairs. Petrol station shot must occur. There is currently a complete ban on Gumtree with a thread level of FECKING MENTAL where there is an imminent threat to life.

Apologies for the lack of updates last night, I was knackered when I get home, too dark to take any photos and I was emotionally scarred following the train journey, especially the 2nd leg from Manchester to Wigan which seemed to stop at about 25 different places before arriving in Wigan.

Anyway, the subject of the collection was yet another red discovery. Almost immediately after I bought the 3dr from Red5 on here, my inbox filled up with a glut of tidy ES spec discoveries which were in more or less original condition.

I picked the most local one which had an MOT and a "non mong" ebay description, made a very cheeky offer which after a bit of negotiation led to me buying 1996 300 tdi ES auto.

A train journey to the other side of the pennines led to the seller collecting me from the station, offered a decent long test drive and unusually for ebay he gave me the option to walk away if I didn't want it.

It behaved fine on the test drive, fairly lively, nice and stable in the corners, so I handed the money over and sorted the paperwork.

On the drive home it behaved well, although a couple of issues came to light, firstly it needs a thermostat (only gets hot when thrashed and cools down again quickly afterwards) and the cruise control doesn't work (common fault with perished vacuum pipes)

Arrived home, dumped it in the field and went to bed.

This morning I had a poke underneath and all seems solid in the usual discovery problem areas. I'll swap the thermostat at the weekend and see how it performs, but it's looking like being a keeper.

The exterior is pretty much mint, no body damage and just the odd bubble here and there. The interior however, whilst in good condition and complete has been used to transport kids and dogs - therefore needs some serious fumigation. I've ordered a carpet cleaner and that might be next weeks job.

Once this has proved it's worth, the 3dr disco should be moving onto JohnF and MissF, once some fleet adjustments have been made at _F towers.

Nope, I've got a "gopping heap" already which has been abused mercilessly by me over the last 10 years and wanted a tidy one as a keeper before they get hard to find and the prices go up
