I have a Vauxhall diesel, now nobody wants to be my friend.

Never darken this Forums doorstep again!

Vauxhalls are built in Ellesmere Port therefore any cheating software would of been written on a ZX Spectrum and typed out with webbed fingers.

My Astra (a Petrol drinking mk4 one) was put together in Poland.

Ellesmere Port is renowned for much more than Webbed Fingers, and most of it is due to the chemical industries, but Widnes (some 10 miles away down and on the other side of the Mersey) is the place for proper full on birth defects. Largest Proportion of defectives in the UK. (Probably)

I get the impression that the comment about the Daily Fail was partly said in jest and you've fallen hook, line and sinker into that one. However, I agree with your overall point that when reading the link, it's actually nowt to do with Daily Fail as such and the points made are well researched.

The outcomes of the Vauxhall tests are basically what I was saying all along; diesel is a dirty fuel and unless manufacturers other than VAG are magicians, there's a limit to how clean you can get derv to burn.

I reckon we're on the verge of a shitstorm with modern diesels. I've read mutterings of changes to tax costings for them, and it's inevitable that the fuhrers will eventually push them off the road.

For now, I'll enjoy the diesel sipping economy of my old A4 PD130, which I've just recommissioned* after leaving it in a hedge for several months whilst pratting around in a fun** petrol car over the summer.

* inserted £20 of derv and drove on. Still got snails in various orifices.

** not as fun as sexual relations.
