I'm just sick and tired of having to pay through the nose for my own oppression.

Yo Junkman! Get over it!!!! HTH, bo11ox

Starter motor packed up apparently.  This one's been playing up a bit recently.  If it doesn't behave it's going to get substituted.

I have s starter for sale. Comes with a free 405 too. Expensive though.

Very nice, Always fancied a 405. Really liked the look of the 405 mi16 but i think this looks nicer.

That interior is lovely. Peugeot really sorted out the 'craggy, rattly' thing with this facelift, even if the original dash has a bit more design interest. A/C will be R12, I'm sure - think the swap over date was around 1995/6 for most cars.

(Lightbulb - A/C started being a default fitment to lots of cars from 1997 onwards - remember all those campaigns for £99 A/C on things like Mareas? - R12 was way more expensive than the new stuff).

Cracking buy that.

My last 1996 example had working aircon and a sticker saying it ran on the later type refrigerant.

Good point about the air con, it might be different to my later 1995 versions.

Current most annoying problem is the heater fan stuck on full blast; can only stop it by taking out the fuse.  Have disconnected the heater control panel which makes no difference so something else is going on there.

Discovered what was causing the heater fan to only work on full blast, was this:

Blower fan heater resister.  Unusual in that you couldn't turn it off without taking the relevant fuse out as opposed to only working on the maximum number on the dial.

Decided to have a go myself as the part was only £12 on ebay.  Getting the fan assembly out of a 405 is fairly easy, just three screws under the glovebox and out she drops.  However prizing the motor assembly apart to get at this resistor nearly beat me, you really have to push and pull and press on this and that.  With the new part in it's done the job good and proper, well chuffed.  If you have a similar vintage PSA car (they use this part on lots of Citroens and Peugeots) with a fan only working on the top speed it's the likely culprit.  Next job is to see if the air conditioning needs a re-gas or something more substantial.

Starter motor now fixed on blue one so two happier Peugeots.

Yeah, my Xantia blower only works on full blast (although the auto function at the other end seems to work ok). I'm gonna take everyone's sage advice and studiously ignore it though. Compared to three + years of taking out/putting in the wee piece of stick for hot/cold blowing in the first 405, it's luxury! Am interested in why the ac button does absolutely nothing though. But only interested. Not enough to open up a world of pain. I think. Am sure the engine is sounding a bit rougher in the last day though. Or it might be in my mind. It's in my mind isn't it? Of course it is. Mmmmmmmmm French.

Your new car is ace Sir. Best car I ever had to date was my first 405. Before that it was my 205. Fucksake, I always wanted to be a Volvo guy. Dammit. :)

Had the same thing on the 406, they use the same controller.
Word of warning, I bought two new units from different sellers on yeebay and they were both DOA!

I suppose they're all cheap copies so it's bound not to last as long as a genuine one.
