Scrappage vindication and new acquisition!!

Fucking hell. Just scrapped my recent purchase of mistake and misery.

The vindication bit happened when he attached the winch hook to the towing eye and pressed 'go'.

Pulled the whole front end off. Weetabix everywhere.

Ended up having to winch it up the ramps by the engine block.

See, the thing is, I was feeling guilty for not having the skills/place/cash to do the repairs that I thought it needed, that a lot of you guys pull off. BUT, I did have a gut feeling that it was just a snotter in shiny metal.

Fucking right it was.

So farewell XUD number 2. You were ballicks.

Tomorrow I'm viewing and almost definitely buying a replacement chariot, for almost half the price. And it's not a 405.

What went wrong with it in the end? I know weak towing eyes from trying to tow my Xantia out of a ditch.

 

I think it's optimistic at best to expect no downfall to running a 20 year old car as a daily.

A very satisfying purchase today for a mere 280 clams from a lovely couple from New Zealand, who know their shit about driving and looking after cracker older cars.

 

It would seem that I have an XUD fetish.

Also came with SO MUCH HISTORY! Absolutely all of the history that ever existed.

So far all I can find wrong is that the stereo doesn't work, so am trying to work out how to get the facia off without destroying it. As I have a hangover.

Needed almost every part of new front suspension, timing belt, welding fest, exhaust, alternator and battery. Rotten as a pear underneath. Was not one of the good ones (like my previous one) that had fared well for its 200,000 miles. Okey dokes?

Fair enough, I wasn't having a go. I've scrapped cars with less issues that that, and it was definitely time to give up on that one by the sounds of it.

Zero power going to the stereo. Dead as a doornail. All the wires and plugs at the back are secure. Fuse is fine...
