rainagain Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 Does anyone know where in Dunfermline is a cheap place to get tyres fitted? I normally use Sava tyres but I won’t be able to drop the wheels off with the new tyres as my OH’s cars got alloys and I don’t have my usual stock of scrappy steelies for it. Sava tyres are great as the guy only charges £10 a wheel, but he does this on the provision that you drop the wheels off and he does it when he’s quiet through the day. I need somewhere where I can take the car in, and get the tyres fitted whilst I wait, either 4pm onwards during the week or on a Saturday morning. Also does anyone know somewhere that does tracking cheap. I have Gunson tracking gauge but I’m willing to pay ~£20 to have the tracking done as the Gunson gauge is such a pain in the ass to use.
jonathan_dyane Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 Out of interest where do you buy Sava tyres and what do they cost?
Richard Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 I believe the garage on the road in to Upullit is quite reasonable for fitting, I've never used it though. rainagain 1

derskine Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 Try the Garage next to the shell garage in Crook of Devon, not really Dunfermline but not that far.Guy is the soundest guy you could meet and charges £10 per wheel including balancing, if you pre-arrange it with him he should do it there and then. rainagain 1

Thanks I've called National and arranged to take it in today for the tracking, hopefully I will be able to slip the guys £20 cash to fit the wheels. I was in there ages ago getting tyres fitted that came fully fitted through blackcircles and the guys working said £20 cash for would be ok in the future for fitting tyres, however a couple of months later I nipped round with some tyres and it was the manager who was in the office and he said they wouldn't fit somebody else tyres. Fingers crossed no manager tonight!
derskine Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 I don't like to give those kind of businesses any of my cash, I feel much better helping out smaller independent garages, they are always much more willing to help you too. oldcars and captain_70s 2
CortinaDave Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 National are sharks.. No wonder they won't fit tyres bought elsewhere, they want to force you to buy their grossly overpriced stock. I think D&G autocare charged me £12 last time I needed a tyre fitted, they're pretty decent.

DodgyBastard Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 Autoweld in Elgin industrial estate do a fiver a wheel for me, no balancer though. Tracking £15 at the Kia/Nissan garage down by the glen if pre booked online.
rainagain Posted May 29, 2015 Author Posted May 29, 2015 Should have taken Foad's advice. Went today after work, I normally hold the trackrod end with a spanner whilst undoing the lock nut. They don't just stuck the spanner straight on it. Also I unclip the small clip on the steering rack gaiter to stop it twisting, they don't. I also make sure the steering wheel is completely straight, they don't. It's about 3 degrees out so one spoke is horizontal and the other drops away, where as they should drop away slightly. Thinking about taking it back but they might just look at me like I have straight steering wheel OCD, which I have. Also they won't fit tyres you bring in. Grr wish I'd just done it myself now.
DodgyBastard Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 Farmers in Dunfermline also do tracking and will fit tyres supplied by you but are a bit pricey for tyre changes.
