Quick Insurance Question

Just renewed my car insurance with another insurer than the one I was previously with and on the certificate it says something I've never had on my policy before " Persons or Classes of Persons Entitled To Drive: Mr Greg Hendry Mr David Hendry provided that the person driving holds a licence to drive the vehicle or has held and is not disqualified from holding or obtaining such a licence. Mr Greg Hendry may also drive with the owners permission a motor car that is not owned by or register d to or hired rented or leased to them their business partner or their employer or is being kept or used in connection with their or their employers business"

WTF? Is that a roundabout way of them telling me I'm insured 3rd party only to drive other peoples cars? It also seems to suggest that it DOESNT cover me to drive any car that's hired rented or leased to me?

Sounds like it, on the downside I'd best check mine because I've been driving my bosses car a fair bit recently on my driving other cars cover.

Yes, the rest of the wording is there to avoid them having to pay out in situations where you would be covered by another insurer.

Pretty sure the other vehicle (i.e the one you have borrowed from a friend) has to be insured by the owner. Some insurance companies won't cover you if the other person has trade insurance on their vehicle, too.

Could come unstuck if driving the bosses car on business, not sure if driving other cars covers that.

Worth reading the small print anyway, lots of temping staff might find themselves without cover, as most policies SDP plus Commuting only cover you for commute to one regular place of work...you need business cover.

I had to get this clarified with Adelaide, as i once in a blue moon have to travel to another depot to work instead of my home depot, they're OK with that as its not regular on SDP + Commute.

Yep the other car has to be insured on another policy if not they will impound the car you are driving......

My understanding of commuting is that it's a single place of work, but can be different places each day. If you're getting paid to make the journey, or travelling between different sites, you need business cover.

It doesn't really matter, I just wanted to clarify if for example I wanted to use my dads car (owned and insured by him on taxi insurance with S,D and P use if he wants to use his car when he's not driving it for fares/picking passengers up) if mines in the garage etc this now covers me?

I never drive my bosses car personal car as I work for a hire firm and during working hours when I drive other cars I'm driving under the company's blanket company wide insurance covering all employees on any vehicle on the company's fleet either owned by them or on lease/contract hire to the, from someone else)
