The Problem is nowdays people want to impresses the neighbours/mates/the opposite sex too much and don't give a toss about how much they need to pay for the privalige of doing so. Hence any company offering "wegiveanycunt" kind of credit will do good (for them) business.

I was allways told by my Parents if you cant afford to save for something then you cant afford the credit......a bit old fashioned but I do get the point.

When I was 19 in 1985 I had a 75 P reg Mk2 Escort 1600 Ghia (a 2 door too.lol) and I was lucky to have that.......a newish car was not just a dream it was out of the question.

Dare I say Arnold Shark will be announcing the opening of 10 new Motorstore branches in the next few days/weeks.

Yes, there's a local Shark opening in Chesterfield. They're demolishing the old Tescos now to make way for it.

I bought from Available Car.

They offered me a better interest rate than my bank would - 4.05% or something. They let you sit in loads of stuff and wander around without any hassle, you don't get to speak to a sales droid until you go and ask. Yeah, some of the droids are a bit pushy with the extra stuff like underseal and wax (on a car that's already had three winters outside, erm, no) or reversing sensors, but just say no and they get the message.

I could have probably got a better deal for cash in a private purchase, but I didn't have the cash and I needed a newish, reliable car for 30,000 miles per year for work. And work were more than covering the payments so I was hardly losing out financially.

Weird spec and colour? I got a vision blue Focus Titanium, which seem to make up a good percentage of the cars on the road. Wifey has an AvailableCar grey Touran which again is absolutely everyday spec. On that one, they even voluntarily did an MOT because it was less than three months til due, and did the cambelt because it was over time but within mileage.

Not saying they're perfect - they successfully wiggled out of a warranty claim although did pay out on another. But AC don't appear to be as bad as Yes Car Credit, Carcraft et al.

Fair enough, but with stuff like Audis and BMW's, they are more pricey than the main dealers.

I've only ever been in one Carcraft and that was at Sheffield (many years ago) As part of my then job I visited building premises - when I did call they pounced on me / only when I told them what I was there for did they scurry off in different directions. I couldnt get over the size of the place - huge. Theres another 10 mins away from me in Leeds (not been to that one but it's clearly visible from the motorway and again is huge place)

I cant imagine how many they had to sell etc - My mate bought an Escort off them years ago / was a typical pile of shite but he was happy and he had it years in fairness (probably due to the length of finance!!)

I'm sure another will pop up in it's place - and like has been said Arnold C appears to be heading south somewhat.

Only ever been in once, must have been a good 10 years ago. It was somewhere in the North East, but I can't remember where, Durham maybe?

Didn't have any of the shabby treatment like being followed/car keys taken away and not allowed to leave etc that I've heard happens, but the sales guy didn't have a clue about any of the cars, reading off sheets and asking us about them! My brother was after a big exec diseasel and had a 1.2 Corsa suggested. He still has the same car from back then.

Is that the abandoned supermarket near pub just off the island opposite the new one in Chesterfield? If so it doesn't look a very big plot unless pub is going too?

That's a massive plot, I'm pretty sure the Arnold Laver Timberworld behind is disused too. All a car supermarket needs is a massive carpark (like at Tesco) and a little building to talk money.

Especially when it comes to depreciating assets.

I read the threads with the guy who bought the clio.

It is easy to laugh, but a sharp reminder of why every fucking venture capitalist in the world wants to set up shop in the UK.
