Pete-M Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 WTAF are you going to build out of those Volvo bits?
DodgyBastard Posted August 8, 2015 Author Posted August 8, 2015 Hit a bit of a dilemma with the sprint, I've been offered the 340 for it but now there could be a deal for this.... E28 by srblythe, on Flickr JohnK 1

DodgyBastard Posted August 10, 2015 Author Posted August 10, 2015 I handled it quite well, first time dragging a trailer and I was slightly hung over. Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk oldcars 1
DodgyBastard Posted August 10, 2015 Author Posted August 10, 2015 In a shocking turn of events I've got the tata plus trailer in exchange for the metro... Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk
DodgyBastard Posted August 10, 2015 Author Posted August 10, 2015 Seems a fair swap? Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk brickwall 1
BavarianRetro Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 So you swapped the Tata for the Rascal, then swapped the Metro for the Tata back plus the trailer? At least you've still got something to move this engine with.
DodgyBastard Posted August 10, 2015 Author Posted August 10, 2015 Aye, that's pretty much how it went. Now who got the better deal? Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk
derskine Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 So essentially you swapped a metro - a rebadged it you fool one too, for a trailer and a rascal? Win.
BavarianRetro Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Well, it's difficult to work out who got the better deal. Positive. Metro goneTrailer acquiredRascal acquired NegativeTata stays Pretty close call. derskine 1
DodgyBastard Posted August 10, 2015 Author Posted August 10, 2015 I've got nothing else to tow with so the Tata will do for now.
BavarianRetro Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Are you old enough to tow that trailer, Scott? Looks like it'd need a pre '97 licence. trigger 1
DodgyBastard Posted August 10, 2015 Author Posted August 10, 2015 Fuck knows if I'm legal... Bad news is it's not wide enough to take a broken t5 but the hand winch can pull a t5 with seized brakes... Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk
DodgyBastard Posted August 10, 2015 Author Posted August 10, 2015 Also got a new pair of brake calipers for the 360 after Mr Ron Sealant dicked me about for a week and didn't even touch the brakes, he wanted to rip me off, weld everything and fix stuff that wasn't broken. Fuck you Ron! Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk derskine 1
oldcars Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 You should start a breakdown recovery service, Tow And Take Away
DodgyBastard Posted August 11, 2015 Author Posted August 11, 2015 In case you were wondering, the above rant was about my local Volvo specialist Ron Sealant. Mrs foad took her 360 to him hoping that because he was an apparent specialist he might have an inclination as to why the brakes were dragging intermittently. We left the car there for a week, hadn't heard anything so went back on the Friday.I asked if they had looked at the car and they said yes then proceeded to make a fuss about getting it on the ramp. It's quite a cramped yard so they had to shuffle about some cars first. When it was up on the ramp I asked if they had found any issues with the brakes, they said they'd taken it on a run but couldn't find anything wrong. They also used 1/4 of a tank of fuel on their "run".They told me it needed each jacking point welded as well as the full inner and outer sills. They were saying how I'd be able to get a good look underneath when it was on their ramp, I said I had already seen it on my own ramp and knew what did and didn't need welded and that I was a welder so it wasn't any of their concern. The look on both of their faces was priceless. With that job ticked of their list they tried desperately to pick at more things they could "fix" Ron pointed out a fuel filter that wasn't supposed to be there, it was of course for the fuel pump and had Volvo stamped on it. When the car was back on the ground, they opened the expansion tank and said there's very little in there, Ron pointed to the water pump and said it looked a bit damp, he asked hopefully if the timing belt had been done, I confirmed that it had along with the water pump around 5 months ago. We decided to take the car away which they didn't seem too bothered about. Anyway, I had a look at the brakes, the pistons were pitted/rusty and the bleed nipples were fucked. I ordered new calipers at £50 per side and fitted them last night. What a difference, the car is smooth, no brake drag or binding and is a pleasure to drive again. I can only imagine how poor I'd be if I'd left it at the garage... Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk CGSB 1

DodgyBastard Posted August 19, 2015 Author Posted August 19, 2015 Sold Rascal, I fixed* slipping clutch on the Alto, the clutch cable was too tight so I loosened it off and now it feels great. Volvos brakes are still broken, I ordered a master cylinder and some flexi pipes to try an cure it. The Tata needs new fuel lines, after fixing the indicators I noticed a leak, no wonder it's shite on fuel, the pipes are made of rust.I'm going to cut them off and used a plastic pipe instead...The 305 still needs the rear axle bushes doing and I've only gotten around to ordering the o ring I needed for the fuel pump... brickwall 1
