POWERFLOW (he isn't going THERE is he)

I know many of you here have mixed feelings about Powerflow.....Indeed I do myself. BUTT the exorst on the Cowley is driving me nuts. It has never fitted properly - by me, by a good and experienced fitter mate, by a marque specialist and now by me again. It doesn't line up properly, fouls the torsion bars, rattles and I am sure its not doing its job properly in the flow department either. I rather naively believe that if I chucked a couple of hundred quid at the right POWERFLOW franchise or other bespoke pipe bender I might be a whole lot happier. Its obvious that the only supplier of complete systems is not really the answer.... Any thoughts?

Sounds like a good idea to me. I don't know much about powerflow but I'm sure they or another company could improve on what you've got at the moment.

I think you would be lucky getting a system for £200. My local longlife exhaust company seem to charge £200 for every little job. I needed a pipe for an early prius. As it had the cat on it over a grand from Toyota, it had rotted out on the pipe so all it needed was a bit of pipe with a couple of bends £200 please. There again I tried a different supplier for the hearse center pipes as again he wanted £200 for these. They had them done in under an hour for £90. Powerflow build them on the car so would fit but won't be cheap.

I have a really nice stainless exhaust which was built for my T2 by a bloke called Turbo Thomas - in Redditch

And many years ago I dealt with PD Gough who built me a 4 into 1 manifold for it, somewhere in Nottinghamshire.

I think you'd be better off finding a specialist exhaust fabricator than going to power flow.

Anyone worth their salt should be able to see what's wrong, replace the crap, ill fitting bits and re-use the bits that are OK

A couple of years later, you'll be able to nip back and have the system finished off completely.

I got my exhaust made at the local powerflow for the saph, its fantastic, I have had others made by him in the past and they have been great as well.

Aye..not impressed with my local one. However, lunchtime googling has thrown up a couple of local firms I had forgotten about.

Thank you shiters for the thoughts. Didn't particularly want stainless either and have found a man who can in mild steel.

Hoping to get a new tail pipe and rear silencer for the Outback made up at Longlife Northampton...unless anyone knows anywhere better...if so please shout.

The rear silencer i am almost certain has been replaced with one from a 2 or 2.5 (its rusty anyhow), and i can understand why, the H6 genuine article is a staggering price not far off a grand, it's got  a flap inside which opens up under enough pressure and allows it to go almost straight through (my Landcruiser is the same but its the centre silencer that opens up)....the one fitted now doesn't appear to have that and is strangling the engine at higher revs...so a new stainless tail pipe and silencer with better flow should do the trick.

Have tried to find a good used one but they seem to be all bolloxed by about 12 years, the later model is different again they went twin rear pipes, that's another grands worth of OE exhaust too.

I love Jap motors, but the exhausts are a joke.

Ive always wanted a full stainless steel system. But they cost more than cars.

I've had 2 Powerflow systems fitted by the same stockist. The first was on my old Corsa B and it was ok, too quiet though, considering a 22 year old boy racer asked for it to be loud.

The second system I had made was for my Coupe and it was absolutely terrible. I asked for a fairly loud system. Instead, I got a fucking titanic sized backbox and centre silencer, the sound was quiet but it had a mystery rattle. When I brought it back to the shop, they blamed the car.

I binned it after a year and bought a Remus. When I took it off, there was a fucktonne of exhaust paste and gaps in the welds.
