Moggy Minor, daily driver... worth it?

As a Minor owner, I'd say spring, summer, autumn = yes. Winter = no thanks. Thats mainly because I won't use it on salted roads. I can't weld, which is something it'd need from time to time due to the salt.

 

The heater on mine is fine, stick an 88 degree thermostat in there and you should have no problems.

 

I didn't find the seats particularly comfortable so recently, after 15 years ownership, swapped them for leather seats from a Ford Ka. Minimal modification, straighforward to fit and easy to reverse if I want the originals back in.

 

 

My car was fitted with a 1275cc engine from an MG Midget (before my ownership) which gives it a bit more grunt, however it runs out of legs quickly so I've put in a 3.7 diff, again from an MG I think. The standard 1098 has (IIRC) a longer stroke so should cruise better with the standard 4.22 diff.

 

Also got disc brakes from a Marina but I wouldn't necessarily bother with this, the bigger drums from a Wolseley are a good way to go as suggested.

 

I've hidden a radio in the passenger side glovebox so I can listen to Radio 2, added an electric washer pump and a hazard warning light kit.

 

Also fitted some extra gauges (revs, water temp, oil pressure and volts) so I can see whats going on.

 

Also worth bearing in mind they are worth as much in parts as they are whole and are very easy to steal, so think on where you'll be leaving it. I'll happily walk away from the Focus having parked it considerately and deadlocked it, but don't like leaving the Minor alone too long. Daft I know.

4 mile commute? I'd do that on an Austin 7 let alone something as modern and well equiped as a Moggy!
