I need my head XMined

Must admit, the V6 really is the best engine for these. Not a vast amount of difference when you're wafting down a motorway, but at slower speeds, the purr of that V6 is just wonderful.

I had a V6 Xm. It was fab, not bad on fuel either 30mpg at normal* motorway speeds.

Had it two years.

Nothing went wrong.

Sold at a profit.

True story.

Well today I realized that I'd washed the XM twice and it hasn't been used at all in that time, so took it for a quick spin as a treat! Also took some new pics by the sea.

A black V6 XM is definitely near the top of my wants list, though being used now to a 2.1 diesel auto I'd probably drive it into a wall the first time I put my foot down in one.

Went to the FCF Robertsbridge area meeting today after breakdown man jump started it from his booster pack (note to self, use the XM a bit or even at all!). Found the headlights were flashing on & off together with alarm warning and it's raining. Never mind head out to Bodiam Castle to meet Citronut about an hour later than planned. I missed someone else in a silver BX (cant remember the name), but met Malcolm for some lunch, well he'd had his already. We didn't bother with the Easter egg hunt as it was raining! Luckily he knew how to sort the headlight flash thing, so all good

Yup, there is some baffling reset procedure for the alarm that I can never remember. One day I'll remember it. Probably after I've sold the car (not that I have any plans to having just clocked up another 300 miles in it).

you put the key in the ignition and turn it till the lights come on on the dash - STOP

then you press the button furthest left on the control panel above the heater controls. Hold it down and the red light should go off and the car should stop flashing at you.

The fact it just flashes and the alarm doesn't go off means the alarm volume must be switched off (using the igniton key) at the switch next to the top of the radiator.

Posted

Mine never did this, infact I think the alarm only went off on its own 4 times.

I have that keyslot in the ZX, and it's alarm has gone off several times. No sounder though. Wonder if I should try the mystery keyslot and see, even just to see if the alarm siren even works before turning it off and leaving it off...

Posted

the key slot turns off the alarm siren - it's all it does - and it has a red base on the V6 pics! Left of the radiator and just behind!

Posted

Mine sits front left too, but through the front crossmember. Dont recall ever seeing one in the TCT, but then I never looked for it...

Previous owner said he had disabled the siren as it kept going off and he used to leave it parked in London all week. I presumed he meant he snipped the wires and that was that...

Does it plip the siren when you turn it back on again? Wonder if the old windows down, car alarmed, open from the inside trick will work (Puma used to be great at that, used to scare the shit out of Amy with it...)

the TCT had the key pad in the centre console and not the alarm cut off in the engine bay!

Here we are meeting with more 2CVs, in this case belonging to my cousin.

Oh dear. I've not even so much as washed mine since long before I went to Devon and Birmingham in it. I was going to start on painting some sections that desperately need paint, but other things got in the way. Maybe tomorrow.

Well as I've just been told off for starting grumpy, boring threads, I had better continue with a grumpy, boring update here.

The back of the driver seat has been undone since I had the car & every time I pushed it back, it would come undone with use. So I have tried a shite fix, by taping a length of electrical cable to the edge to make it thicker & tucking it in again. I've not driven it yet so don't know if it will last.

Been having XM problems recently. As I arrived at the Chevrons Rally (see other thread) the XM decided to stutter as the gas went on (never done it before).

At the Rally lots of really lovely people (mainly from XM forum & French Car Forum) helped to find the fault which seemed to be

1) split pipe to MAP sensor

2) faulty Lambda sensor (CitroJim connected it to his pre Lexia diagnostic system, thanks Jim!)

Anyway the pipe was cut off & re connected, but on the way home it wasn't happy. When on the throttle felt fine, when lifted off the throttle felt fine, when trying to maintain a constant speed not fine, you can feel the car lurching like it is going on & off the throttle in an unsubtle way.

I managed to get a new bit of pipe & today fitted it. Trying to detach old pipe from MAP sensor it was very tight (you can guess what's coming?) 20 year old MAP sensor spigot snaps off (bugger!). I have no idea what gubbins is in a MAP sensor, but the case is pretty thick plastic, so I drilled a hole & glued a Halfruads pipe connector in with Araldite. I put it back together and................ it's exactly the same! I had better get Lamda sensor & maybe a new MAP sensor.

1) Lots of people helping at Chevrons

2) CitroJim's pre Lexia device

3) Found this cable disconnected, no idea what it's for, didn't make any difference when re connected.

4) MAP sesor "repair"

Just gave the XM a wash for the first time in Months and as it's been my daily since the C4 VTS was smashed up, it was pretty grim. Just discoverd that it is actually black!

Excellent. I'll keep an eye out for it. Will be down your way this week in my white one.
