Pete-M Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 As I'm moving to the Sunny Czech Republic in May, or thereabouts, I'm going to have to downsize my UK fleet somewhat. Figured I may as well ask you lot what you think it's all worth.Car number 1.'89 BMW 325i Touring. Diamandschwarz (metallic black) with black leather (including rear head rests), aircon (needs fixing), LSD (works rather well), ZF 4 speed auto, BBS alloys, headlamp wash wipe (works!!), front fogs, 180k miles or thereabouts, cambelt and waterpump about 3000 miles ago, drives rather lovely, MOT until July, tax until end of May I think. Tidy condition, few minor dents here and there but incredibly rot-free for an E30 (The tourings were better made).Car number 2.'87 Range Rover Vogue EFi Auto. Caspian blue with dark grey leather. 108000 miles with all old MOT's and that type of stuff. Converted new by Janspeed to "High Power" spec with a feckin' huge intercooled turbo setup and blueprinted 3.5 V8. Body was converted by Wood and Pickett of London so it has the special W&P dashboard, one piece all aluminium lift up tailgate, special wheelarches, more soundproofing, working AC, bullbars, light guards, rear-mounted spare wheel, and upgraded walnut bits here and there. Paint on the bonnet is knackered (lacquer has lifted) but otherwise she's a tidy old bus. MOT'd until May I think, SORN'ed at present.Car number 3.'80 Renault 30 TX Auto, but I'll probably keep it.Car number 4.'82 Golf GTi 1.8 Mk1. Black, restored a couple of years ago, hardly used since, truly clean original car with no mods other than hydraulic tappets. Very very nice, too nice for me to use if the truth be told. Interstellar mileage (around 200k) but it's been restored, what more do you want? This'll have 12 months MOT, but won't be cheap.Anyone got a clue what they're worth, or willing to buy 'em?
pogweasel Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 Interesting. I'd say that the only one that will actually make you good coin and that you won't feel depressed about is the golf. Sure the 'fads' over the last few years has been for horrible faux-rat & halfords paint jobs, but a top-bollock Mk1 will still always have a broad appeal.Back of a magazine at anywhere between £2500 and £4000 and see what happens. Range Rover, well you've gotta hope you find some nutter who really really likes burning fossil fuels. A ropey one will sell easily to the mudding nutters, an LPG'd one will sell for towing, can't quite see who yours will appeal to, could end up a bit of an albatross. Which is exactly what the BMW could be too. I am certain than mine will never leave me as a whole now. Who wants a 2.5 litre car in times of hardship & expensive petrol? But the parst in them make very good money for folk upgrading & modifying other BMW's. This will be the ultimate fate of mine I think. Mine wants for a headlining and £300 in the bodyshop to tidy it up and then it's as good as done..... but I'm not even sure if it's worth doing. If I feel particularly angry / depressed over the next week I may start chopping it up. Dead money as a whole. Dirty cash in bits. Tragic, really.
Pete-M Posted December 26, 2008 Author Posted December 26, 2008 I bought the Rangie because, well to put it simply, it's a Rangie that goes like fuck and actually handles. The W&P stuff isn't really to my tastes but I do like the wheelarches and dash.. If I can get £1500 for it I'll be a happy bunny. It's very annoying for me as it's damn near unregisterable in CZ, or I'd definately take it with me. They don't like turbo conversions etc. Makes life difficult. I may have to speak to Janspeed to see if the conversion was factory approved. The 325i I'd estimate at £800ish if 'scene tax' comes into play. It doesn't owe me much less (if any) so if no-one wants it I'll take it to Czech with me.The R30 will hopefully be useable and MOT'd by the end of January. The Golf, well, I'd possibly take £2500 for it.
Torsten2001 Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 ^^wot he said, and exactly wot he said about the Range makes it attractive to me!
fearthecat Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Wish I had £1500 and some way of transporting... sounds a posh Range Rover, but mmm, Range Rover Vogue is just lovely.
VWPowered Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 we are looking at moving to the czech republic next year too (my sister teaches in prague) so you never know
Pete-M Posted December 27, 2008 Author Posted December 27, 2008 we are looking at moving to the czech republic next year too (my sister teaches in prague) so you never know Prague is ok, but massively overpriced compared to other places. I was mortified last time I was there at having to pay the equivalent of £1.40 for a pint of Guinness. It's nearer 75p where I'm off to
shite_meister Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Does the E30 have the leather Sports seats or just the standard type leather seats? if its the former I have known tourings to have been bought purely for the leather sports seats as they are sought after. Sadly although it sounds like a beeeeuuuuutiful motor you'd easily get 250-300 for the LSD and approx 200-250 for the wheels (if 15") and thats before you've started on the leather-I know this because I'm trying to restore an E30 Sport and have bought and sold loads of parts. The way to offset your pain is to remind yourself of all the tat you'll be able to buy when you're there although if its anything like Poland (where I am reporting/spying from at moment) then the Czech Rep will be full of booted Fabias, Renault Thalias and Daewoo Ticos.Whats happening to the barkas? I really love those.

I really love those. They're 'comfort' leather seats. The wheels are indeed 15" and your prices appear to be spot on. I suspect the AC system would fetch around £250 as well. The Barkas is staying in Czech. It's more useful there.
The Reverend Bluejeans Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 A clean leathered 325i Touring is £1500. They're tough, not bad on fuel (30 plus on a run) and are fixable. They have a following for sure and the slipper/leather/BBS combo is a good one.Dunno about the Strange Rover. Very hard to value, but let the Electronic Bay be your guide. A standard one is £500 - 1000 tops no matter what the condition so anything over that I guess!A Renault 30 should never be sold, so value is irrelevant. Just needs self levelling to be a world beater.Mark 1 Golf GTi - like E30 Convertibles - have suffered in value lately. Maybe the classic thing has come and gone but a nice one is surely £1500 plus?
Gompo Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 I dont reckon an auto 325 Touring with that sort of mileage would make £1500, but you should get over a grand.Rangie sounds interesting, lump or atleast turbo gubbins might be of interest to TVR owners or those considering an RV8 transplant but would be a shame to split/break - and a pain if you want rid quite quick.Mk1 Golfs are tough to price - you'd think with the whole 'scene tax' thing they'd be very desirable.. but they dont tend to be. If it's as good as you say £2.5k would be about right I think, due to the mileage.
