New POD Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I try to avoid going to Type accord dot co dot uk too often, as it's a depressing place full of people who like 19 inch alloys and often have less mechanical know how than me, so that the phrase "MY mechanic Said" is often repeated. Anyway, over the last 2 years, I've 'invested' heavily in "my Mechanics time" firstly the alternator failure, which left me stranded then the ABS fault was beyond my time and inclination, then the cracked exhaust manifold (a design fault), Lets call it £1500 of NONE service items, of Unplanned and unavoidable shiteness. and now this : No vibration when NOT accelerating. No vibration when Braking. Vibration as I accelerate from 50 to 70 in any gear, but the harder I accelerate the worse the vibration. Car is smooth from 70 to erm more than 70. If I had a private airfield, It might possibly be smooth under hard acceleration all the way to 130 (Who knows ) http://typeaccord.co.uk/forum/topic/18784-vibrations-at-50-60mph/?hl=vibration There are numerous topics on that forum that relate to this. But IF it were the drive shafts, and if that fixed the issue then I might as well not bought a diesel to save money on the fuel. (does that sound right?) Thing is that the car is great if I ignore the short period of vibration, which is only upsetting between 55 and 60 really. I really can't be arsed throwing money at it, and I can't be arsed to change cars as this one goes. Fixing it might be a long term option, but nearly 4 years of ownership and I'm a little bored anyway. Running it for another 4 years would definitely make the costs more erm amortised over another 80K. Anyway, I'm a little pissed off. Shall I trade it in for a NEW shit box on easy credit ? Anyway, a completely unrelated picture of the beach just north of Liverpool michael t 1
MarvinsMom Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 is that the remains of the ss great eastern? could the vibration be down to wheel balance or tracking? the metro started doing something similar to that between 55 and 65 mph-ish, when i first put the alloy wheels on it, and it was all due to the wheels been all out of balance with no weights left on them. FWIW, i'm a firm beliver in sticking with a motor you know, instead of spunkin' out god knows how much over ever so many years (cos 60 months sounds so much better than 5 years) when all you could be getting is someone else's trouble.
Honey Badger Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Maybe swapping to a 2.4 Accord would make all the derv based evils go away? It certainly wouldn't be boring Sorry to hear your having trouble with the Honda, all modern diesels seem to have so many issues. Totally agree about typeaccord, can't read more than a couple of topics before my head starts to hurt.

If I stop accelerating the vibration is not there. Hence why wheel balance was not the first thought. If I was going to buy a replacement, I have only 3 cars I like. One would be a Mini Cooper S (Bmw Generation 1), which would not be practical enough, one would be a 2.4 accord with LPG kit in estate form, and one would be a CLS 320 D (which would cost the same as a new shit box and cost £64K when new, and I wouldn't be able to afford the repairs), hence CBA
New POD Posted January 28, 2015 Author Posted January 28, 2015 It's somewhere between The National Trust at Formby and Fishermans Path at Freshfield michael t 1
twosmoke300 Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 It is most likely the driveshafts I'm afraid. You can never see anything wrong with them tho . I've done a few sets on accords and crv diesels . Try jr drive shafts .
Richard Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Is it possible to swap the inner joints side for side? That's the standard mingebag cure for similar problems on Saabs.
twosmoke300 Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 But it will vibrate at 60-70 in reverse then !! Vince70, Semi-C, Rusty_Rocket and 2 others 5
Rusty_Rocket Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Another vote for inner driveshaft joints I'm afraid. My Alfa did exactly the same and with parts costing too much, I simply flogged the bugger.
Richard Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 But it will vibrate at 60-70 in reverse then !! That's true, and it will vibrate a bit on the overrun too, but nowhere near as badly.
Noel Tidybeard Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 check if there is a damper ring on shaft and is it coming apart etc
