privatewire Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 All right chaps and chappesses, It appears I have 2 slow punctures caused by leaky shitey alloy wheels. Is there any answer to this other than to have the wheels refurbished?
Bren Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 Is it corrosion on the rim or have they gone pourous?
dave21478 Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 If its leaking where the tyre bead sits, which is normally the case, then you need to get the tyres off and rub down that area. There are also sealants that can be used when re-fitting the tyre. Often this is just a delaying tactic as once corrosion has caught under the lacquer then its only a matter of time until it reoccurs.
Bamboocarman Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 I had porous alloys on both a Suzuki Cappuccino and Hyundai Amica in recent years; both cured by injecting some of that Holts tyre foam, available in supermarkets, good stuff - actually works.
privatewire Posted November 5, 2014 Author Posted November 5, 2014 Thanks guys, I think the leak is from the rim on each wheel, had thought of cheap steel use, bu never thought of the inner tube idea! Cheers gents.
Split_Pin Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 Had this problem on my Vectra, sealing the bead didn't work either. I wasn't awfully bothered with the tyres so just pumped in some of that can stuff that repairs punctures. Sorted it.
privatewire Posted November 5, 2014 Author Posted November 5, 2014 Aye, I was wondering if anyone had used the squirty stuff. Might give that a shot.
mercrocker Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 Can you tube alloys? I thought they were wrong shape usually. Anyways I would watch for roughness anywhere the tube contacts, I had shed loads of bother with my Farina and they were steel but had rough spots which chafed the tube. Nothing worse than a flatty you needn't have had....
Luckythirteen Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Two of mine were doing that, so Pa took the tyres off, and coated the wells (?) with Waxoyl. Seemed to work for a while, but in the end we replaced them with better ones from a scrappy. And got a set of steels while we were there, just in case!
dugong Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Don't eat tyre weld. Luckythirteen, privatewire, warren t claim and 1 other 4
Luckythirteen Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Dear Sir,Today I tried to weld two tyres together, but your miserable shitty product failed to do What It Said On The Tin. As a result, I crashed into a minibus full of nuns carrying kittens to the unicorn sanctuary, and have been arrested by by Will Smith. Please feel entirely free to fuck right off,Yours,Herbert Dimwimple.
