All those other things you mention, Des, make me squit too.   I had the misfortune to hire a Nob Beetle in Canada once.   Couldn't imagine that VW built something that drove worse than the original but they did,,,,

I quite like the new'ish Beetle too. Oh feck. I will now close my AS account. Good bye everybody, it's been fun. I feel so ashamed. I may be dammed.

Stereotype owners can ruin the image of any car. Sadly.

2CV's had a hard time in the 70's/80's. Audis have a hard time now. BMW's have suffered and still do. Tis all about the image, not the car really. If you care about image that is. Suspect that most of us do care up to a point, I would be massively embarrassed driving a new Audi for example.....

Occasionally I have to! :-(   It's my boss's car and once in a while I have to use it for work purposes.  It's a 2008 A4 TDi estate, in silver.

There, I've admitted it.  I'd be significantly less embarrassed admitting to trawling bondage chatrooms or something!  In my defence, I've only driven it about four times in the two years I've worked for him.  Thank goodness...

Years ago when the Institute of Advanced Motorists was all the rage they used to supply a little cover to put over the badge in the event somebody else was driving their car....Maybe we should carry something similar to cover up Audi badges when needs must.

I think I understand why the PT Cruiser was inexplicably semi-popular in the UK.

If you squint, it sort of resembles a modern-day Morris Minor.

I think I've just worked out the Autoshite hate for the PT Crusier (or at least mine). It wants to be cool, tries too hard and fails badly.

The Autoshite way is that cool or fashion is of no importance and the more effort that you put into it, the more resistance you will receive.

It's a bit like geeks shunning hipsters, because hipsters actually work at wearing mismatching clothes to look anti-fashion, while geeks just wear what the feck they feel comfortable in.
