Renault extra want,but insurance snag

I,ve found a perfect Renault Extra van to make into a replica of an original Renault parts van.

It actually was a genuine parts van when new,BUT now doesn,t have any of the black/yellow stripes or RENAULT PARTS decals, its just a white van.

I rang my insurance company today, both Morethan and footman james and they both said they wouldn,t insure it if it was stickered up again as it was when new!!!

I said how do old vans like Morris minors etc get away with it then stickered up as ex BT/post office??

What is this all about i don,t get it,its a 1990 van.

I've never heard that before, Have you tried any other companies?. I'm with RH, give them a try as i think they are pretty lax with modifications. 01277 206911

I had the same issue when i was stickering up my Reliant for advertising. I found a great company that gave me a great deal. Will did out the details tonight, can't remember off hand.

Just gave RH a ring and they won,t touch it.

Think i will give it a miss to be honest, can,t believe how much hassle this is causing.

Just got an AXA quote of 172 pounds for my old Renault Trafic on Social domestic pleasure an no NCD but no question of being signed

Your quote will be based on the following assumptions.

Your van:

  • will only be driven in connection with the business of the policyholder, or for social, domestic and pleasure purposes.
  • won't carry passengers for profit, or be used in connection with the motor trade, or for racing, competitions, trials or as a pace vehicle.
  • is right-hand drive.
  • is not refrigerated.
  • is not a caravan, motor home, motorbike, classic car, limousine, wedding car, tanker, coach, taxi, kit car, imported vehicle, or self-drive hire vehicle.
  • hasn't been modified or converted in a way that improves its performance or affects its handling.
  • won't be used for diplomatic, emergency services or military purposes.
  • won't be used at hazardous locations (airports, nuclear plants, chemical plants or oil refineries) other than the public car parks and access roads at these locations.
  • won't be used to carry or tow any goods of an explosive, inflammable, corrosive, toxic, hazardous or other dangerous nature.

It is worth the hassle if you want to do it!

Insurance is weird, you need to speak to someone with authority at a brokers, not just their phone people.

Don't let these drones spoil your plans!

If it was on a commercial policy you could get away with it. The insurance companies are thinking that because its stickered up it will be used for commercial purposes, but am guessing your wanting it on a SDP policy. This is a case of common sense does not prevail. Also you won't be able to use it a dump it site if stickered up for the same reasons as above.

^ This.

My 4 F6 is insured with RH but can't have any graphics on it. They are fine with modifications but signage can't happen.

When we had a Sprinter we had a commercial policy with Direct Line which was pretty cheap and no problems with it having livery but then it was a full on business policy which probably isn't what you want.
