Ford gearbox question

How do you tell the difference between an MT75 and a Type 9? I seem to remember the shift pattern's different but I can't recall which is which.

MT75 Reverse bottom right. (Some with a push down, but not all, depends on vehicle)Type 9 Reverse, push down past the gate and top left (better for feeling the leg of the bird in the passenger seat, that's why I prefer Mk1 Sierras)

Ta all. Looks like it's an MT75 I need then. Fortunately there's a few cheap ones on the Bay at the minute.

Even if it was a type9, I would get an MT75, it's a better and more reliable box, worth the conversion. If the gearbox is off, the type9 is cast iron, and the MT75 is ally.

MT75 usually has a lift up mechanism under the gearknob for reverse.

MT75 has a cast in bellhousing (I think).

If you feel like going back in time wuvvum, if the gearbox is still fitted and the car running, hit reverse gear while the car is running - if it doesn't graunch it's an MT75. Syncromesh on reverse gear - luxury.
