Hose clip pliers

I have resealed the thermostat housing on the fiesta.

Refitting the hose clips was a PITA due to only having mole grips.

I need some proper pliers - however I need to know what the hose clips are named before I spend any money as there are so many different types.

Anybody got ant idea?

You can often get away with using an adjustable plumbers wrench, but its a bit of a bodge and I've had one hose clip snap doing it this way. Its easier than mole grips, but less easy than just using the right tool (fnar)

though, as Spike says - just remove the hose clips and replace with stainless jubilee clips and your life will be a lot easier in the future.

I guess everyone has a different point of view.  I much prefer the modern springy clips and I think they apply more even pressure than a traditional jubilee type clip.  I got one of these:

Which I think is really good.  Not sure it would do anything but it certainly did the really awkward one on the induction of a X16XEL Astra.

Assuming you mean this type of clip, I just use water pump pliers

Those are likely useful in certain situations. Never used 'em though.

I would just as soom replace the clamps with threaded ones though. I hate fighting those springy clamps; they're good for assembly at the factory but I wouldn't trust 'em after that. Easy enough (sometimes!) to remove with linesman's pliers, vise-grips or even Chanellocks, but reassembly is often a real vocabulary builder.

I got an eBay pipe clip plied thing from eBay.

Is fucking brilliant! Each side of the head rotates and is moulded to either the thick or thin side of the pipe clamp, and it's ratcheted so once you squeeze it locks so you can pull the clip over the hose off the connector.

Bought them after doing the thermostat housing on the puma, where we had used large but not quite large enough pliers, cable ties, molegrips etc.

Best £7-£10 I've spent, used them so much since!
