Dacia Denem / Shifter

Recommended Posts

So in my last ditched attempt to get the Shifter Sam was selling I've just sent him a pm. I am away as of next Monday and won't have much access to my emails, heading out to Romania of all places and could use the trip to source a few parts it may need.

Whoever has bought the Shifter and hasn't collected it........you're not worthy of such a brilliant machine :-D

heading out to Romania

Don't come back without a Denem.

(It wasn't really me that bought Sam's Shifter, by the way.  I never drink that much.)

No fun getting one out there. If needs be, i'd get one as a donor car but i'm holding out for a UK spec one (RHD and on UK plates).

After 25/30 years, I wonder if my old man has any contacts still about............he used to get rolling shells straight from the factory and also metallic paint, which made his Dacias really stand out from the crowd

We lived about 120 miles away from Mioveni but had a house in a village close to the factory too.

Hey RMX if you find a cheap alternator for my Duster while you're out there, and a pair of sills that would help me make some progress.

Other not so important parts are pair of front wings

Have you tried the USSR?

There was a big old bloke, whose name I now forget, had a Zaporajetz (sp)

in his yard some where in a village in Leicestershire.

barefoot - did he also have a Dacia? (that's what im hunting after)

SambaS - im afraid i'm flying over so turning up at check in with a pair of sill and wings may not be the best idea I've had :-)

However, you say you're after an alternator not a starter motor correct? I only ask because reading your post about progress on the Duster you were after a starter motor as it was missing.

No, but they had some right obscure old crap and might be an alternative place to ask.

His name is Geoff Armitage, that Zapotec has my name on it, as a spares car (terminal rot) to sort one of mine. It's just awaiting collection, thanks

He's not a Dacia man.

My tip is, if you want to 'negotiate' a deal on this shifter, it sounds like you need to tread fairly carefully, so it might be an idea to NOT post up every step of your communications on here.

SambaS - I did laugh a little, I'll keep an eye out for a starter and ask a few people when I'm out there

Yes you're right, negotiating a deal is normally done privately however since the car has been advertised on here and most members know about it and have seen the state it's currently in I don't see the downside of me sharing my interest in getting my hands on it. Although sold, it would remain amoungst us and there can always refer back to it. There have been additional conversations which will not be posted here however I am a tad excited to say the least, thinking I may have been able to find the shifter since I've already mentioned my plans would be for a complete restoration from A to Z.

I don't know about 'not a Dacia man', he's certainly one of the oddest blokes I've ever met.
