Lacquer repair on painted fibreglass, is it possible?

This plastic-fantastic is giving me the eye, but I don't really want a car that looks like it's come from a skip.  I guess the fibreglass body (and metal doors) have been painted then lacquered but the lacquer has peeled badly.  I spoke to the owner yesterday and he said the photos make the car look better than it really is!

What's the best procedure for this?  Admit defeat and repaint it all over, Rustoleum with a foam roller again?  Or can the lacquer be cut back and re-applied?

Then what on earth are you doing on this forum?

Is it coloured gel coat, or has it been painted? Either way,I think you're in for some time with a roller in your hand [ooer mrs!]

I think it's painted. The doors are steel, or P38, because they're Mk1 Fiesta parts so there might be blue coloured gelcoat on the fibreglass but to get the colour match it must be blue paint and clear lacquer all over

Can you just sand fibreglass and repaint or do you have to muck around with gel coat? Or is that only when you paint it fresh?

What about vinyl wrapping it? Might be easier and cheaper than a repaint and will allow you to preserve the unique* finish it currently enjoys - just a thought
