the Alfa's gone in to get the alternator done today.

Took the headlight bulbs out and they're both blown so seems there might just have been some kind of a surge.  They looked like theyd been in since the dawn of time so I don't think thats a recurring problem.

Alternator cost me 30 quid. At the end of the day if I get it on the road for 130 quid plus a couple of bulbs I cant really complain

Alternator is a pain to do on these, been there.... I took off the entire inlet manifold, which was fun. Too much hassle to take a chance with a used one IMO....unless it's not a keeper...

Well the alternator's now swapped out and all is charging fine. Mechanic told me it was a total pig to do as expected.

drove it home on deserted country roads at midnight - it is TREMENDOUS fun.

Theres a slight blow from the manifold when cold but otherwise its now all good. I'm gonna punt it after payday but hopefully I can have some fun with it first.

I'm sure he will. I noticed he was logged in this morning so he's still lurking.

there's more important things in the world to fall out about than a knackered 13 year old Alfa.

Mostly true, I am sure, but there's always the one.  Not quite a wire, but my old Lotus Excel would utterly die if a single pipe that fits loosely to the crankcase breather became disloged, which it easily did if you fiddled about near the air box.

My HPE Volumex is currently on its arse because of a probable but as yet un located wiring fault in the supply to the fuel pump.

Check the fuel pump relay and fuse which is under the rubber cover behind the battery. It may be that the fuel pump itself has died as mine did a few weeks ago with no warning.

It was 29 years old though! Pump's 5he same as Alfa 75 & Series 4 spider if that helps.
