Ratdat Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 I tried again to hire such a vehicle recently, but couldn't find anyone who does them any more I couldn't find anyone around here or Grimsby either so ended up hiring a car trailer from a place in Lincoln. It was damned pricey too at £90 for two days but I couldn't really A-frame this heap of shit all the way back from the Isle of Wight
Father Ted Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 I originally collected my Fiat 500 from the south coast on a hired transporter - the ramps were too wide for the track which made loading interesting...I tried again to hire such a vehicle recently, but couldn't find anyone who does them any more £30/dayAdmittedly of bugger all use if you live in Grimsby - but they are out there....
MrRegieRitmo Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 ? just a pic, no text?Just showing the pic that wasn't displaying! (and a good one it was too!)
Ratdat Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 Coo, Ratdat! What happened to it?I'm currently swapping it's engine (5.9), power steering and power brakes into another one I have. The yellow one was rotten as a pear but ran great. Cost me nearly as much to go get it as the car cost
MrRegieRitmo Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 What is it, a Plymouth or something? At first I just took it to be a Mitsubishi Celeste without really looking at it properly but I can see now that it's much bigger than that!
Richard Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 Is it one of these? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4M0ZpJGTI0&feature=related
Richard Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 Ah. I don't know any songs about one of those.
Gompo Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 Thats a good idea actually for taking the banger rally to the next level, get a decent towcar lik8 a 3 year old Audi A6 Quattro 3.0TDi and trailer your old banger across europe in air-conditioned 35mpg comfort, when you get there weigh in the banger and drive home again with an empty trailer (or even a load of Lithuanian girls to employ as slaves). Wacky fun all the way without the risk of having to regrind the crank at the roadside using a nail file!Hope all went well Mr.B - you got this the wrong way round though, surely you'd leave the towcar abroad (particularly if a modern Audi) and drive the 'banger' back..
seth Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 A-frame cherry popped! Well I didn't actually drive but was sat there waiting for the Oxford to make a bid for freedom.. Many thanks to teh Pog!11)""!! PS. Rememberance Sunday might not be the best day in the calender to A-frame a car throught central London with half the Met on overtime duty....
pogweasel Posted November 9, 2008 Author Posted November 9, 2008 HAha!Another one indoctrinated into the ways of the frame!¬Have to say that is the most hardcore bit of A-framing evAr, balls to Mr_Bo11ox euro adventure, try negotiating hyde park corner & the victoria one-way with a pile of 60's brit-bilge dragging behind your motor. Terrifying at the best of times, but the immense BACON presence in the area (gr8 timing!) really makes the palms sweat, the pulse quicken and the bumcheeks flap.
seth Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Good timing... where's the Oxford going? Its gone to a safe, dry, underground lair somewhere in the capital
Mr_Bo11ox Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Thursday night, 11pm: DOVER Friday morning, 10am: BELGIUM Friday afternoon, 3.30pm: BO11OX MUSEUM
Guest Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Nice work! Are the rest of the Bollox museum still intact?
Mr_Bo11ox Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Nice work! Are the rest of the Bollox museum still intact?110% so, not a speck of rust on any of em, loads of dust like but that adds to the whole 'barn find' appeal IMO: Only issue is the O RLY owl had moved into the barn along with a few smaller feathery mates, with predictable results: BASTARDS. I rinsed that off as best I could and took some chicken-wire based anti owl measures around the place to prevent this outrageous defacing of historic artefacts. Really these cars need some poly sheets put over them i think, I'll sort that out next time. The FUJI HEAVY INDUSTRIES 1800 4WD is safely packed away in the dry for discovery at a later date. .
Guest Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Is that the 929 Wagon? Little sods! Hope it's not burned through the lacquer or anything.
michiel Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Rezulz! Shame about the pooping, bastid birds.
pogweasel Posted November 10, 2008 Author Posted November 10, 2008 Get straight down to your nearest VW scene show. OMG HOODRIDE.
michiel Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 My Starlet should go down well - OMG NOTWASHEDINATLEASTSIXMONTHSRIDE! With some rust spots.
nigel bickle Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Glad you had a good trip - fairly easy on European m/ways -just crusie inconscipously along at 70ish, slow lane -no hassle...All that way -you didnt stay a few days -find something to bring back.Wasted opportunity- in my humble..
wuvvum Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Good timing... where's the Oxford going? Its gone to a safe, dry, underground lair somewhere in the capital That safe, dry underground lair looks strangely familiar... This A-framing malarkey seems like fun. I must get myself one. Oh, and a car with a towbar and a working clutch...
nigel bickle Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 It'll be fun -till some turd in a wheezing 3 cyl metro with dubious bodywork is stopped by Traffic; A framing a Range Rover (or suchlike) prob missing half its bodywork -at speed, in the rush hour, down the fast lane of the M40.Thereon it wont be fun. I'm sure that day is looming...
Father Ted Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Am I the only one to be worried by that bloody great crack in the barn wall?
