Junkman Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 The following series is from the 1964 East African Safari Rally. And yes, there will be the odd colour photo, simply because I find them historically significant enough to not omit them. Apart from the usual who is who of the World of rallying, the most notable entries are the three Bill Stroppe prepared Mercury Comet Calientes, driven by Viscount K.Mandeville/P.J.Walker Ray Brock/Norman Greatorex Joginder Singh/Jaswant Singh. Carlsson inevitably pa tacket: This didn't keep him from finishing 2nd overall. A visibly disappointed Ray Brock, after realising that his battered Mercury won't finish the rally: The result: 1. #3 Peter J.C.Hughes / William W.G.Young (EAK) - Ford Cortina GT. 63 pkt. 2. #28 Erik Carlsson / Gunnar Palm (S) - Saab 96 Sport. 74 pkt. 3. #2 M.P.Armstrong / E.C.Bates (EAK) - Ford Cortina GT. 4. #66 C.L.Cardwell / J.D.Lead (EAK) - Mercedes Benz 220 SE. 5. #72 Vic Preston / E.R.Syder (EAK) - Ford Zodiac. 6. #50 Robert Shankland / K.Kassam (EAK) - Peugeot 404. 7. #68 P.Coniglio / P.H.Huth (EAK) - Mercedes Benz 220 SE. 8. #60 I.A.Jaffray / P.G.Sargeantson - Peugeot 404. 9. #17 Pat Moss Carlsson / J.Mayers (GB/EAK) - Saab 96 Sport. 10. #10 Vic Elford / L.Baillon (GB/EAK) - Ford Cortina GT. 11. #57 M.Iqbal / M.J.Lawrence – Peugeot 404. 12. Nick Nowicki / Paddy Cliff (EAK) – Peugeot 404. 13. W.Dixson / T.Mytton Watson – Ford Zodiac. 14. J.Lionnet / M.Smith – Peugeot 404. 15. #4 Beau Younghusband / Philip R.Hechle (EAK) – Ford Cortina GT. 16. #93 Tommy Fjastad / J.H.Jasani (EAK) – VW 1200. 17. Jamil Din / C.Barnes (EAK) – Peugeot 404. 18. #81 Viscount K.Mandeville / P.J.Walker (EAK) – Mercury Comet. 19. #32 K.G.Mayers / F.G.Potter – Saab 96. 20. #39 John F.M.Jeeves / Gerald F.Alexander – Datsun Cedric. 21. #80 Joginder Singh / Jaswant Singh (EAK) – Mercury Comet. NorfolkNWeigh Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Mr Singh was a hero.I'm not denying that, but why was he getting a trophy for coming 21st? It must have been his worst ever Safari Result.
