Ratdat Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 I had to find Fatha Ratdat some badermatic wheels in a hurry a couple of weeks ago after the trusty Bader Bluebird finally keeled over due to neglect. As I had precisely one day to find him a cheap car I ended up buying a reasonably low mileage X plated Mondeo which is fairly tidy and seems to drive okay but it's got an idle that wavers up and down constantly. Any Ford pervs here know what's up with it? Something simple hopefully as I really can't be arsed to start learning all about Mondeos. Oh, it's a 2.0l Zetec auto BTW. Also... anyone got a towbar to fit it going spare?
Bren Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Throttle position sensor? M-I-L granada did same thing - erratic idle and engine "hunts."
mrbenn Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 I'd clean the idle valve as a matter of course then have a look for vacuum leaks. I've found this site useful: http://www.gomog.com/allmorgan/ZetecIdleIssue.htm EDIT: Might be worth trying a battery disconnect too, this resets the idle values.
Stixy Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Check the breather and vac pipes at the coil end of the manifold there is a T piece which breaks and causes air leaks and idle problems If your lucky that will be the problem but if not look at the idle speed control valve best viewed from underneath on the inlet manifold above the n/s driveshaft Cleaning them somtimes works but they are cheap enough new http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IDLE-SPEED-CONTROL-VALVE-FIESTA-ESCORT-KA-MONDEO-SQUARE-/290900704092?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item43bb087b5c also have a look in the throttle flap housing these can gum up and cause problems
Mike D Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 My old boys had a vac leak on one of the little hoses round the inlet manifold that caused the same issue
trigger Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 My old 1.6i Zetec Escort used to do that, it was the idle speed control valve on the air filter box pipework IIRC.
fordperv Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 My first port of call would definately be the iscv and checking for vacuum leaks
Ratdat Posted May 22, 2014 Author Posted May 22, 2014 Cheers folks, plenty to look at there. I'll get him to pop it over one day next week and I'll have a poke about at it.
