my Volvo 940 alarm has started to sound off at random,no obvious reason, nothing has been changed,  or left switched on.

Its not at regular intervals, totally random, about 3 times yesterday then again last night.

Any ideas, would a very low battery cause it as it is on its last legs.

Heat probably. Expanding glass, internal pressure changes.

There's been loads going off random like birdsong on our street since the suns been out.

Might be worth giving a good spray of fly killer inside in case you've got an insect doing the biz.

The battery may be it as the alarm is possibly sensing a voltage drop hence it sounding.

Find its tweeter and yank the wires...nobody takes any notice of them anyway

I'd say battery or open up horn and look at the circuit board. Quite often it has got all oxidised and shorting out.

Lock it on the key instead of the remote, no car has ever been saved from theft by an alarm.

Failing that I think the handbook tells you different ways you can set the alarm up by pushing buttons on the receiver.

It could also be the shock sensor. Usually it's zip-tied underneath the steering column. If so, try adjusting it with a jeweler's screwdriver. If the car is parked on the street, traffic driving by it can cause a slight movement of the car, which is enough to set it off. They do tend to drift over time.

If you want to just disable it, and it has an ignition kill, you'll only need to find the +12V wire, which is cut and spliced into the alarm module. Then having reconnected the same, rip the rest out by the roots and Bob's your uncle.

Have the same problem with my shittay V70.
Yours should be a simple fix as suggested by others

The volvoguard alarm/immobiliser system fitted to 940s is not known for its reliability or durability. really not worth messing with, I'd try and get it bypassed
