Citroen GSA on booze cruise

For our second trip over to Calais <> in recent times, I nominated my trusty GSA as transport instead of my girlfriend's Honda Jazz :D

This time we made a weekend out of it, but because the crossing was later than planned due to cancellations, we had to do most of our booze/Christmas shopping on Saturday evening because we didn't realise that on Sunday France is basically shut... Which gave us more of a sightseeing opportunity. So yesterday lunchtime, braving the rain and gales, we hopped onto the A26 and headed to Saint-Omer.

We parked in the Town Hall car park, where this was the gloomy scene...

Here we are, sandwiched between a nice Renner and a Focus comically parked "a la Francais". Note that we also were parked over the white lines in the French manner

From this vantage point, it looks like a damn good AS spot pic, but no, I parked it there

All I could muster was this snap of a lightly chavved 205 I'm afraid...

I saw three BXs, a brace of XMs, a couple of Renner 25s and a 4 - but I was either in no position to get a shot or it was bloody raining and my girlfriend would not have been amused. I only got the pic of the 205 because she was queuing to buy drinks from a take-away!

It was well worth the trip though, because we stumbled on the breathtaking gothic Notre-Dame Cathedral:

Here's a small Youtube clip my girlfriend filmed of the GSA in action on the A26 back to Calais! Apologies for the shite quality, but it's better than nowt! Oh.... there is a hi kwolity option on Youtube but my ancient work computer can't hack it... looks a bit better though!

I thought the ending was hilarious, considering my car's 26 years old... in comparison with the modern being towed 8)

The trip was a bit noisy, since the badly fitting pattern exhaust blows like mad when there's standing water  . Cue a worried Lucy wondering if the car was about to fall apart....

Final pic: back safe and sound in soggy Calais and fully laden with boooooze. Can you tell? There were some comedy chinks over the speedbumps at the Eurotunnel check-in though!

And no, the driver's door isn't wonky, it's just not shut properly (in my haste because it was pi**ing it down).

Cheers,

Mark.

I'd love to one day take the R14 or other old rhd Renault to France & drive it around to see if anybody notices! The equivalent would be a Frenchman coming over here on his hols with his French registered lhd Marina! Something similar, but less dramatic was when we stayed in a farmhouse in Normandy in 1999 & the British owners had a D reg rhd R25 phase I with the headlamps converters permanently attached of course!

Lush!! (in all senses of the word!!)I had a Pallas saloon, but always hankered after the estate.

Stellar work! I echo what Mr. Hirst said, it's great to see old cars being put to work, and reliably.

Note that we also were parked over the white lines in the French manner

Always take up 2 spaces so twice as many people will be glad when you leave 8) Good work!

... and it's back to the daily slog to work. Took it to a fellow shite-lover's house last night to help fix his comp (no joy). When I came outside gone 11pm it was covered in snow!! Mad mad weather... and on the way back home I was worrying about whether the roads had been gritted or not  Last time I had it waxoyled and undersealed was over 2 years ago... Time to ready it for a winter rest I think.Mark.
