V70 bought - now swap time.

I bought myself a P reg V70 2.5 20 valve auto estate yesterday.

For what I paid, I think it's a nice car, however, it does have its problems, but only reasonably minor.

The exhaust seems rather noisy. It also vibrates slightly through the car and I'm sure I felt it through the steering wheel.

So, I'm assuming the exhaust is goosed, but I'm going to get it checked out asap.

I've been offered an exhaust, but it came off of an 850 with the same engine, hopefully an estate also.

Can anyone tell me if it will fit the V70, please?

The driver's window lowers perfectly well, but when I raise it, it goes out of shape in the door, and has to be held while raising to make it raise to the top correctly.

Any ideas anyone?

The remote locking keyfob doesn't work. Once again, I'm assuming it's the battery. I took the old battery out but can't make out the wording on the battery, and I don't have a owners handbook. I think it's a CR 2016, but if anyone could confirm that, I'd be obliged.

That'll do for now, more to come I expect.

I'll get some pics up when I at least wash it, it looks a dog at the mo.

Full leather trim though - woo hoo.

Google says CR2016 is a likely candidate. It may also be stamped inside the battery cover. If you can measure the batt, this page may help:

As I said in the pm, your estate and my saloon breaker do share a lot of bits, early V70s more than later ones. I do have a good exhaust system, which I think would be the same until you get to the back box. We need an expert to tell us the difference between saloon and estate zorts. Good idea to have a poke and see what you need.

BUT, from the symptoms you describe Dave, it may just be that it's mis-aligned, and pressing on the underside of the tunnel, vibrating the shell and amplifying the noise. Possibly caused by duff rubbers.

HTH.

Thanks Joe.

I'll see if I can get it checked out today.

Also will be getting a new fob battery. I'll take the old one with me.

Pretty sure it's the CR2016 from the info I've gathered trawling.

Do you need a HBOL for this? I might have one kicking about if its any use?

oooh yes please. Absolutely definitely.

Thank you.

Erm any photos yet?

It looks a filthy old dog at the moment.

Got the remote central locking working though :-D

Found out about the vibration too. No need to go anywhere, I had a butchers under the bonnet and the top engine mounting is completely fookered.

If it's that circular rubber engine steady on top of the engine, with the bracket to the bulkhead, then EVERY second hand 850/V70 I've seen has buggered rubber. Including both of mine. Very common problem.

There's loads of info out there on how to do it.

If the car's a keeper, poly-bush it, then it won't need doing again.

If you're a cheapskate like me, stick an ebay one in, and pray it lasts a few k!

So, the exhaust's ok then? :D

Oh, pictures of the filthy old dog please! Ta.

Glad you found one. On the subject of those mounts it looks a similar idea to the ones on Saab 9000s- although a standard mount is much cheaper the polybush ones are a doddle to fit, worth thinking about if you don't have access to a press.

Posted

Am I right in assuming those polybush items come in two pieces?

That would make it a doddle.

Do these polybush items come in two pieces?

I do believe that to be the case.

I do believe that to be the case.

They are indeed. It took me all of 30 minutes to fit one to TV2 when I first bought it :)

Posted

Yep, took a wee while to get the old bush out with a hacksaw, hammer and screwdriver and about a minute to fit the new one. It will be a bit harsher though with more vibration through the gear lever.

Posted

Depends just how mullered his old one is :D

Posted

Am I right in thinking that every trace of the old bush has to come out?

Including the outer metal sleeve?

Then the polybush goes in without an outer sleeve?

Sorry about the questions, but I've never done anything remotely like this before (said the actress to the bishop).

Any how-to's gratefully received.

Battery can be measured - 2016 batteries are 20mm across, 1.6mm high. 2032 (the other common ones) are 20mm across, 3.2mm high.

Yep, it was a CR2016. Now fitted and fob working.

I have a hydraulic press here you could use.

Thanks Dave.

Just bought the powerflex bus, so shouldn't need the press now.

Well, I did the top mount, but not much difference in the noise/vibration inside the motor.

Definitely exhaust related, silent on tickover, just vibrates when revved. Oh well, over the pit for a butchers.

Happy with the car though, must get some pics up soon.

It seems like every car I buy, I need one tyre, and this one is no exception, so has anyone got a jolly good 205/55/15 please?

Would you believe it has three new ones fitted and one old shitter, I can only assume the previous owner clouted a kerb or some such mishap.

Has anyone on here ever had a drivers side front doorcard off of one of these?

I've got to find out why the drivers side front window is going skew-whiff when raised. I suspect the little plastic clip thingys that sit in the channel at the bottom of the glass. Is there access to these without taking the motor and mechanism out?

I've bought a couple of the clips from the bay of e, just waiting on delivery.

A job for next week, got a few days off.

I found out why the driver's door window is going up wonky, the regulator needs replacing. The front lifting arm is loose, so I now need a driver's door regulator. Ayone got one for sale?

Also found out what brought the engine management light on, a broken vacuum pipe elbow. Trouble is, it's in a really inaccessible place and needs various things removing before you can get at it. It's pretty well known on these cars. Infamous actually.

Is there anyone on here who has worked extensively on the 2.5 20 valve engine, that I could have a natter with?

I've been asking questions over on the Volvo forum, and have had some responses, but not what I really need.

It's like they don't want to give any secrets away.

Also, I need a passenger side rear door in dark blue, the 850 is the same, I believe.

Righto, the lure of a 960 has become too much, so the V70 is up for a swap.

I just love the 3.0 litre straight six - always have done.

So, the V70. It's a bloody good car basically, just unloved by the previous owner.

It's a Preg 2.5 20 valve auto. Tax until July, Mot until the end of August.

It will need front discs for the next mot. The brakes are fine, but there was an advisory for the front discs on the last test.

It has full black leather interior.

Oil and water levels constant. Doesn't get hot in traffic.

Scuffs on bumper corners.

Passenger side rear door is a little rippled. I've sourced a replacement in the correct colour, but haven't arranged collection/delivery yet.

I've improved the driver's door window, but there's still a tiny gap at the rear when closed, The regulator is worn, but I'm going to sort it next week hopefully.

Very reliable. Always starts first shot.

There's a diagnostic light on. It's due to a vacuum pipe broken rubber elbow. It's pretty inaccessible and I haven't had the time to do it yet.

I've painted a poor picture of the car, but it's really pretty good actually.

Anyone interested?

Pictures forthcoming if there's any interest.

More info.

Non leaking sunroof  Factory fitted cd/tuner, sounds lovely.

Mileage is roughly 160k.

Autobox perfect.

Had the exhaust checked out - no problems with it, so probably the polybush top mount making it a bit 'buzzy'.

Just needs these these niggly little jobs sorted, then it'll be a cracking motor, but I just fancy a 960.

I'm not expecting a huge response to this, so Mr Moog, I'll still have that load cover if that's ok.

It's bone dry inside.

not expecting a huge response

You got that right Dave!

Embarrassing that there's only you and me on this page...

It sounds a nice enough motor, but I think you'll struggle to sell it here unless it's £15. Sorry mate :(

Posted

Yeah, not too worried. I'll just keep and improve it. The 960 urge will wear off soon. Did you check out the window regulator on your 850? Don't worry if not mate.
