The 126 was my first choice of first car, I was sensible(?) enough to turn down a broken aircooled one (gearbox or something) offered by a friend and was talked out of a water cooled one by my dad when we went to poke around it for a second time. Then the 2cv turned up and that was that.

Still love them, tried to explain to Matt why we'd have one of these rather than a 500, but he doesn't understand. Weirdo.

well, she sat for a month waiting for a new dizzie, duly arrived from Italy at a cost of nigh on £200.

Today I squandered £73 on two tyres and a new valve on a third!

I don't know!

It's a flat twin, but in line!

Surely a vertical twin laid on its back? A flat twin usually indicates opposing cylinders, whether or not they're of a boxer design or simply a 180 degree V, like the Ferraris.

The first Pandas could be had with the air cooled 650 engine, Panda 30. not in UK though. We often missed out on the real poverty models, shame.

We were subjected to the 652cc Visa, though - and didn't that Peugoet bastard LNA come with a flat twin also?

I once 'bought' from a freeads ad a 126 bis. I say bought but it was actually 'free'! Lovely old couple were just trying to get rid of their daughters car - she'd just died adter a LONG illness. She had spent fortunes on the little FIAT at a local garage as it kept overheating. It was a cracker, near mint condition and drove really well.

I drove it away from them while they cried on the doorstep - they really wouldn't take a penny for it - and stopped at the local petrol station and bled the cooling system properly, it drove absolutely perfectly from then on and NEVER got  hot. If I knew how to do it, why didn't the proffessionals? Ripping off bastards!

Oh. and I wasn't even the first one to view it - someone else had knocked it back before me! What the fuck did they want for free?

Nice to share your stories :). Just got my 126 Bis on the road today... its first MOT since at least 2005 as no records available on the gov.uk mot history checker! The car looks nice in white :D.
