New Yank shite.........auction profit shock!

'63 Olds Cutlass F85..........Wanted another Septic for ages, but prices seem to have got silly in the last 3 years for anything decent.
Interesting this.as a] manual [4 speed], and b] runs the Buick V8, which Rover made off with, and subsequently used.
In pretty much mint condition, and would appear to be averaging about 22 mpg, which seems to be impossible........
Has a vague PC Cresta look about the front end......

After some bartering, paid £6k for it, which for a rust free, pretty much bob on '63 Yank I think is cheap........

That looks quite restrained for a US motor, though they did seem to be getting that way in the early sixties didn't they?  Almost European look to it.  Lovely

Very impressed.  Hope it is as good as it looks in the pictures.  Hope you've got a massive garage also!

For a straight Y-body hardtop that's excellent. Well done!

I've never driven one of these monocoque things. What's it like? Real American removed from the world encapsuledness, or more akin to a European feel the road ride?

Some of you may remember this........bought it before my pancreas went on strike, so decided to sell. Couldn't be arsed to advertise it, so I sent it to Brightwells classic auction, fully expecting to take a hit on the £6k I paid for it.........bloody thing only sold for £8.4k........................

That's a lovely-looking car :-)

22 mpg out of a Buick V-8 is just about believable, with a manual 'box and a less house-like bodyshell than a Land Rover product.

Driving impressions in the short time I had it..........pretty competent, bit like driving a PC Cresta, but with better suspension. Steering, as with most Yanks, too light, and far too many turns lock to lock. Not that quick, but bucket fulls of lovely torque, and felt quicker than a Rover V8, [which is what it is!]

Chuffed with sale price, would have been happy to walk away "level", to be honest.

Brightwells are good sorts, worth bearing in mind if any of you guys want to get shot of classic chod without the hassle....................

And here it is, back at Brightwells again. https://www.brightwells.com/classic-motoring/leominster-classic-vintage/leominster-classic-vintage-26th-september-2018/leominster-classic-car-catalogue-26th-september-2018/

I saw it a couple of years ago displayed as above in Thompson's showroom in Lydney when we were buying my wife's Suzuki. If it sells at it's new estimate it will have been a good investment. Unlike the Suzuki.
