red5 Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 Indeed - all engines/manufacturers suffer from the same constraints, cars, bikes et al. Ridiculous ways of measuring emissions based on criteria that would never appear in real life. Most chips/remapping etc start by filling the dips and troughs created by having to meet emissions or noise constraints. Rol-on 3rd gear / 50-70mph noise tests etc. Pathetic
forddeliveryboy Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 It is daft, they've just got carried away, but things are better for cleaner exhausts. Imagine Austin 1100s all sat on the M25 on a cold morning, choke left out. Ironically, they've effectively made the pollution invisible, to allow more of it. Which is just what the EV does - running on coal and nuclear via a massive, lossy distribution grid and batteries is worse than an efficient petrol engine.
CortinaDave Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 EGR= shite. I took mine off the ZT CDTI on sunday. Filled with a solid inch of black sludge. Replaced with a blanking pipe and ive gained 4mpg and a noticeable power increase No EML either. Win!
the judge Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Cleaner emmisions plus the ability to run on shite quality fuel,so the engine is always comprimised and never performing properly. Stop/start is prime example of emmision swindling. no emmisions at lights so really clean. Far too over complex. My daily is a 520d and im worried when its only doing short journeys. Ridiculous that I'm worried to use a modern as an actual form of transport!!! Bollocks!!
Fraz Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Hate EGR valves with a passion... Owned a cheap Saab 9-3 1.9 diesel and was forever stripping and cleaning the EGR to keep it running. Funnily enough my dad ran the same car at the same time and I had to clean two at a time... Grrrrrrrr
Bren Posted April 24, 2014 Author Posted April 24, 2014 When I had my car done it showed three fault codes - 2 were EGR and the third was glow plug related. After having it blanked and deleted it does'nt seem to smoke on start up any more - I was going to fit new plugs.
