GAH! leaking diesel injector pump.

Today at work I noticed a patch of fluid under the XM, it seems to be veg oil. I'm assuming its coming from the injector pump although I can't see any obvious leaks. Are bosch pumps easy to rebuild? I have a couple of spares I could chuck on instead but they may start leaking too, making it a false economy.

 

I thought this veg oil lark was going too well!

I suppose a good start would be to find where it's leaking from, CAV pumps tend to spring leaks from the throttle shaft.

But yours will be a Bosch pump they seem to have a few more places to leak from.

 

Stil it might be easy fix, might not, till you have a look.

Its electronic, so no throttle lever. I'm wondering if its leaking from the input shaft seal..if so it could be a case of sticking a new seal in. I'll have a proper poke about tomorrow.

The 2 bolt plates on the sides midway along the bottom of the pump leak too. New plate, gasket and bolts sort it out . If it is leaking from there it's caused by air ingress apparantly

I can't find a leak anywhere! It seems to have stopped dropping oil on the floor so it's a bit of a mystery. I changed the engine oil the other day and managed to spill some fresh oil onto the inner wing which immediately drained into a hole in the chassis box section. Maybe it's this finding it's way out? The liquid that was leaking out was a clear gold colour but didn't seem to smell of anything, I guess it could be fresh engine oil rather than veg oil... It didn't taste of veg anyway.

 

All I can do is keep my eye on it I guess.....

Apparently, the only way to be sure is to fry a slice of eggy bread in it.

A mate had a 525tds with a dripping pump. A damp towel wedged under the pump cured the leak immediately, coming out once a month for a quick wash and dry.
