well, just curious, as someone mentioned today the one in their garage that is going to be for sale very soon - sat for a decade or more but now has to go...

Its in  Lancashire - about 8 miles from Haydock Park.

Check for rot. Check the rear shocks haven't failed - it'll be nigh on solid because the nivomats have gone, then inner wings, sills and pretty much everywhere else for rot. Mechanically be careful waking the V8 up, they hide camshaft wear remarkably well other than losing power. Change the oil every couple of hundred miles until it's clean. If it's an efi check both temp sensors. Often the fuel temp sensor packs in and royally screws the performance and consumption.

Then check it again for rot.

If it hasn't been started crank it over and check for oil pressure. If it doesn't come up in a few seconds you'll have to split the oil pump, pack it with vaseline, reassemble, remove dizzy and spin the oil pump drive with a screwdriver in a drill until you get oil pressure. Then you can start it.

It's a conditon thing, I guess - he's doing me some pics for when I see him in york in three weeks.

If it's an '84, it'll be the later oil pump which has the slot in the dizzy drive rather than the other way round - but maybe you can still jam a screwdriver in somehow?

Bodily - check everywhere, as Pete says - don't forget the boot floor and roof.

If the roof is rusty around the sunroof aperture walk away.

Body panels are cheap - fitting them is not.

Leaking windscreens are a PITA also.

If it has been in a dry garage, it will be dry inside, if it has even been in some light drizzle for 30 seconds then the glove box and the foot wells will be full of water.

it's been inside for a decade or more.

The chances are I won't want it, as it would be a project too far and no space inside for it.

However, I'm getting pics and will leave it to the SD1 fans of AS to rescue it.
