Saudi Shite Spotting Commences!

Well I took a drive down to Al Khobar on Friday and was astonished at the look of the place after spending the last 3 week in Al Jubail which is certainly not the most scenic part of this region...

Spotted a good few billboard advertising the Geely Emgrand, then I saw one in the flesh.

I have to say it's anything but Grand!

I've been pretty piss poor in updating this thread, mainly due to almost everything being blocked at work.

I've just moved to a new office (& position) and for the moment it does not appear that big brother is active yet on this computer

Here are some shots taken that I've upoaded to photobucket:

Old Toyota Cressida in Al Hofuf:

This is my current conveyance

The Toyota Fortuner - the most underpowered bag of Japanese shite I think I've ever driven, plus the stereo is a touch screen piece of crap from hell!

Good spots mate. Never seen a Geely on the road before.

Probably because there are only Ovlov Estates on the road where you are.

S'pose so.

Of note: The top 20 selling cars in China only have one Chinese make.

The seats looked like they were made entirely of PVC - must have copied something out of a 1970's car book?

I've seen more Chinese motors in this part of the world than anywhere else so far.

It's also amazing how many US School Buses have been shipped over here for ferrying workers to and from jobs. Now and again you'll see a Canadian one with Arrete instead of Stop just to break up the monotony.

Shame about the abandoned Yanks. In many ways, it is a good home for them - uncambered highways, no road salt and I presume cheap gas.

Interesting how many there are, despite I'm brainwashed into believing they hate Uncle Sam's guts there.

Yes, they should dig those power lines under, if they want to watch the telly during the next sandstorm.

Those Chinese cars are a bit like American beer. You start with water, then invent a process to dilute it.

That's a fair point but the main problem was that none of that steelwork was secured to the truck. It was all bouncing up and down on pieces of 3"x3"!

Great shots. I'd be worried about getting caught taking random chod pics by plod, being told I had broken some obscure law and getting my arm chopped off.

Yes I've heard that they can be funny about taking photos. I'm working on the premise that it's just of old cars and not people and they might not be too worried about it.

I've not had any funny looks so far but as smartphones are such a common sight these days, I'm not sure if too many people are that concerned, then again it's easy to convince yourself that everything is cool.... :?

Here I am again, risking life and limb to bring you folks shite in the desert:

I first spotted this old Toyota Stout months back but could never find it again! The buggers had moved it further down the road off the beaten track.

I don't believe I've ever seen one of these in the flesh before.

More Yank shite just further up the road too:

Emmissions are not a problem round here today, I suspect...

So what would your average Saudi class as a girl's car?

Oh, never mind

That Toyopet Stout is arguably the find of the millennium, since it is apparently quite rust free, even.

I'd need a healthy dose of stiff Martinis, though, to bear its surroundings.

Looks like they have a bit of a litter problem?

Ironically, that's not the shitty looking parts either....

I'll probably head back up there at some point to see if I can get some shots of the interior of that Stout.

I could probably even walk there from my place but the AC system in the car sounds more agreeable! ;)

My god the place looks hellish, how long are you there for? I think I'd probably top myself in a month or so

Toyota truck is ace mind you, might make it to 6 weeks if I saw that

Looking forward to the pics of the shitty looking parts.
