Aa Parts and Garage cover?

Re the above, I was browsing the AA website for breakdown cover as my arse has started flapping about owning a French car coming up to 5 years old and 45K miles and not having any cover, especially as it's a modern Renault, one of the options was the above.

Seemingly if you break down and your car requires a new part then they will pay up to £500 towards the parts and labour (you pay a £35 excess) just wondered if anyone has any experience of it, it sounds good in theory for an extra £5.50 a month on top of the cost for the breakdown cover itself, but part of me thinks it might be a con like the extended warranties the likes of Arnold Clark offer that covef fuck all and everything that goes wrong gets put down as wear and tear and they refuse to cover it.

5 year old French car?

When you say AA you should really be talking to Alcoholics Anonymous.

They tried to  flog me this malarkey.   There seemed to be something about "approved repairers" in the stream of telephonic guff so I told them to poke it...Politely of course.

Join the RAC! They had to replace rad, water pump and thermostat by the roadside after I had a fairly major roadside overheating incident . He replaced the lot for just over £300, new parts and labour included, on an e36 323i..

I had this year's ago with a rover 214si I had and they honoured my chosen repairer and had no quibble to pay, used it for headgasket and gearbox failure.

The only stumbling block I can see is that you need to have it serviced at a dealer, can't do oil changes etc yourself. That's the issue I have with my warranty TBH, but then again it costs me about £180 for a service and I get £100 worth of RAC cover free with it. And a car wash.

I have just started looking at warranties for Mrs_P's Touran since there's some interesting noises coming out of it.... but as it's approaching 100k on a 2008 reg, a lot of offerings start to pay only a percentage of parts cost if it's deemed wear and tear, or they duck out totally at the magic mileage.

Here's a tip if you just want breakdown cover though Hendry. Green Flag is £60 for a homestart/breakdown/recovery/relay/misfuel level of cover, go through Quidco and get £30 cashback. That's gotta be a bargain.
