Looks a nice book; I used to spend ages looking at books like this, and older dated books seem to have more charm

Handy book indeed.

I recall the AA Book Of The Car from similar times or maybe published slightly earlier, a basic workshop manual for any make really, descriptions photos and exploded diagrams of components most likely to give you trouble, an excellent guide to maintaining a  car well, i had one and it was excellent.

Must be hard now for young lads (and gurls!?) starting out in their motoring career to learn the basics of car maintenance, or is there a modern version published by someone.

edit...just had a poke nose and several for sale on the bay.

I've got the complete 4 volumes of Marshall Cavendish Car Fix It.

Never seen those, when were they printed please?

Another good AA book is 'Money-saving motoring' which is a general guide for most cars being sold in the mid 70's

The first half is on servicing and contains loads (226) of numbered sections of service jobs with tables of which service jobs to be done for your car at particular mileages.

The 2nd half is the repair manual and contains lots of how it works, problem identification, fixing, etc info

It includes sections on rust damage and crash damage as well as buying 2nd hand cars.

Overall well worth picking up a 2nd hand copy from the bay of mongs.

This was my favourite book when I was a kid. My dad bought it to help him decide between a marina and a Renault 12.

I can confirm it is a hundred different types of awesome.

I think it's still in the attic. Might have to go searching......

I bid £3.50 and was outbid, then found another copy with BIN of £2.99 and free postage.

Will enjoy reading my copy when it comes through the door.

Any more good book recommendations ?

I look forwards to receiving my copy ( yes,'twas I who bought the book )

I quite like the idea of a autoshite endorsed item

It was a 72 part weekly publication, priced at 65p per week.  It was printed around 1984.

I remember the book of the car - landscape format, silver cover? If I recall correctly it had a section on how to Wob up a rusty wing.

I bought that book last year whilst at Lanhydrock House in Cornwall, there was a charity book shop in one of the outbuildings which was full of old books, I only paid £2 for it.

I have the AA Book of the Car, it is good for explaining things for stupid people (like me).

A friend recently gave me a well used copy of the much smaller Car Doctor A-Z that belonged to her late husband. That also looks pretty handy.
