Brake Caliper rewind tool any good

Hi I wonder if anyone can give me some advice..

I've just bought a Draper brake caliper rewind socket which should arrive next week as I have to put a new set of pads on the rear of my old A4.

The problem I've got is that I can't be without my car to long as I've got an interview and a few appointments next week and after buying the tool (only a fiver) I've seen mixed reviews saying it doesn't work.

I don't want to have the car half done stuck on the driveway because I can't get the pistons back and wonder if someone with mechanical experience has used one ok on Vag rear calipers.

The tool looks like this post-9282-0-66956500-1389464300_thumb.jpg any info would be appreciated

Cheers

They work fine you just have to put inwards pressure on the piston too. Just put your Palm against the back of the ratchet and push.just don't twist/mangle the dust boot in the process.also make sure the cut out in the caliper lines up with the tit on the pad (where fitted). I have seen so many wedge shaped pads and Fucked discs where people haven't lined them up .

Agreed it should be fine as long as your calipers are nice and free. You can use pipe grips to compress the cylinder as you wind it in if need be.

Some passenger side rear pistons are left-hand thread so be careful.

ive done vag rear calipers with long nose pliers to twist while putting pressure on the piston with a ratchet extension before when i havnt had a rewind tool to hand, so as long as the piston isnt seized you should be able to wind in with that while putting pressure on the ratchet to push the piston, and as already been said take note of piston rotation and orientation towards pad

As said above it will be fine as long as the caliper hasnt seized   ,

I used to use the spindle key off an angle grinder on ford calipers worked fine

Anyone stuck removing those circlips INSIDE the caliper? I used motorbike fork circlip pliers in the past with huge success.

And circlips with springs underneath? Use a two leg gear puller with a socket under to compress, and then use above pliers.

Thanks for all the advice once the socket arrives I will give it a go...

Will it be best to use a smidge of copper slip on the carrier and on the rear of the pads as I have some knocking about in the shed so I may as we'll use it up.
