Even have people asking to apprenticeship here, but since I don't have standard qualifications (I'm self taught) I don't think I can do that either. I honestly could use the help since this is a one man show and it takes me a very long time to do just one car. But at the same time I don't have the spare cash to afford to pay anyone even minimum wage. Hopefully when Vulgalour moves up north as he's planning to that will help a lot, as he's kindly offered to help out during his free time. I'll probably have to pay him by helping him on the Princess. Inspector Morose 1
Inspector Morose Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Heh, only joking! Self taught here too. Just miss being able to do a proper job on things instead of the now usual "can you do the bare minimum for the least amount of money and work" you seem to get these days. Oh and working on Alfas. And GT6s. And.....etc.etc.etc.....
vulgalour Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Probably shouldn't tell you about the Lancia or the Rolls Royce that are due for work in the near future then...
MikeKnight Posted March 11, 2014 Author Posted March 11, 2014 Got her running today, woot! Smoking a bit but that's to be expected with the carbon in the chambers, cleaning products lingering in the exhaust and paint in various places being baked by exhaust heat. I'm not terribly bothered unless it continues. She's probably also running rather rich, but has always preferred running that way in the past. Here's a video. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/the_avatar/trump_running_vid.mp4 mat_the_cat 1

MikeKnight Posted March 22, 2014 Author Posted March 22, 2014 Well, time to wrap this thread up for a while. Car is all done, timed accurately via strobe, correct mixture set and idle set. Passed MOT with no advisories and back on the road. VROOM VROOM. Will probably post a silly video of me tootling about in a week or so, seeing as I have one of those dash cams now. jbz2079 and Conrad D. Conelrad 2
MikeKnight Posted March 27, 2014 Author Posted March 27, 2014 Went out for a run today. Made a fantastic video from my dash cam. Got home. Plugged the camera in to download the movie. Accidentally deleted it instead, like a complete twat. ..... maybe another one on Sunday.
MikeKnight Posted March 31, 2014 Author Posted March 31, 2014 Finally! ... though it did cock up a bit and delete everything but the first 30 minutes. I'm still figuring how the hell that happened. I could've uploaded the full four hours or so as I don't have a limit on YouTube.
MikeKnight Posted March 31, 2014 Author Posted March 31, 2014 Paddy my work colleague was in the Alfa. He kindly sent me some pics he took when we were parked on the North York Moors. Jim Bergerac, Tayne, Dick Cheeseburger and 3 others 6
jbz2079 Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 That reminds me of driving my mates Spitfire MK4.It used to make 60 mph feel like 120 with it's scuttle shake and wayward tendencies. It was still fun on a nice day though. I reckon your carbs need balanced, as it sounds very three cylindered at low engine speed. We had a 2000 Estate MK2 with that engine in and it always sounded lovely. You mate does not hang around, does he?
MikeKnight Posted March 31, 2014 Author Posted March 31, 2014 I've balanced the carbs already using an air analyser (on both) and the modern version of Colortune to get an accurate mixture. It was running massively rich before and had utterly no power. It's a straight six so it should be nice and smooth, there's certainly no lack of power. I think the poor microphone on the camera didn't help either, it's much louder in person. The Alfa, being completely fiberglass and weighing about as much as two average people, goes like absolute stink when you put your foot down!
