Do CV joints need to bed in?

Recommended Posts

I finished work early today and replaced the outer CV joint on the Xantia, I broke the original getting it off to replace the boot.

The whole operation took about 20 mins, after which I, went for a test drive. Everything seemed fine except on the first roundabout I went round there seemed to be a sort of pulsing through the steering wheel, this vanished after a mile or so.

Was it the grease in the joint working itself round, or is a period of bedding in needed? The bottom balljoint isn't loose before anyone asks!

Did you flex it at all after fitting it? might just be grease settling in....or the bottom ball joint is lo....ah  :-)

I flexed it a bit...I'll see how it is over the next few days.

If it's not doing it now, then the good news is that the invisible joint pixies have worked their magic and you can relax.

You do need to leave a parsnip under the car as payment.

OK, I haven't read all the replies because I'm still in bed and feel like there's a Frenchman living in my head to quote Blackadder, but is it possible that it's a little too small and needs to get warm and loosen up, hense the weird feeling at the feel to start with?
