daveb47 Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Thought i would start a thread re honda as i am going to make a start tomorrow, with the help of my son in sorting faults. No pics today as i have just been looking at what needs doing at moment, but plenty to come as things progress. first job will be to sort sticky throttle cable,It sticks when first used and takes a fair bit of pressure before it pops free, also mahes car a bit jerky to drive.cable looks ok so i suspect that this will be a lubricate and adjust job. Has squeak /rattle from osr wheel, sounds like pads sticking or something,so this needs checking out. Abs light comes on after a while, maybe connected to above. Going to fit Radio/cd/mp3/bluetooth unit that i have had in shed for years, couldnt find cables for it but imagine my suprise when i found that cables on car fit it..Works ok but i rear speaker is crackly.Going to fit it tomorrow as i have to sort out a way to put it in neatly. Hopefully the wiper blades and 100watt headlight bulbs will be here by then so i can sort those out. More tomorrow with pics and i suspect plenty of swearwords
Felly Magic Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Most modern cars seem to have universal plugs/sockets nowadays for stereos. I fitted a JVC head unit into the Skud recently in a couple of minutes. Longest time was removing the spaz loom some donkey fitted before me that was about 4ft of mess!
twosmoke300 Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 The sticky throttle will be crap/ carbon build up round the butterfly. 5 mins with a rag and some carb cleaner will sort that out. The abs on those is weird. Seperate alb pump and fluid reservoir. Special tool to bleed the alb pump. If you read the codes then it usually comes up with code 1, hydraulic failure. Pump or accumulator pooped.
wuvvum Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 My current daily Carina E does exactly the same thing with the throttle. I've just got into the habit of flooring the pedal once before I start the engine, which frees it off - don't really notice it any more as I'm so used to it. I suppose I should really make the effort to fix it properly at some point... I think the noise is probably a leftover from the discs being rusty where the car was standing for a while - the noise was really bad when I first bought the car, but gradually quietened down as I used it. I don't suppose the rear discs do a great deal of work on an unladen FWD car so probably takes a while to disappear completely. The ABS light thing is weird - I had an Accord before which had ABS problems, but they showed up almost immediately - the light went out when the engine was started, same as on the Aerodeck, but as soon as the car started moving the pump would go mental and the brake pedal would pulsate for about 10-15 seconds, then the light would come on and stay on for the rest of the trip. That turned out to be a failed accumulator. The Aerodeck doesn't do that though - although I never actually braked hard enough to find out if the ABS works when the light is off. It doesn't always do it either - I once did an entire 30-mile trip with the light off, but other times it can come on after a few minutes.
twosmoke300 Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 If the pump runs for more than a set time and still doesn't build up pressure it cuts the supply and brings the light on. A abs system bleed sorts it sometimes. Bridge the pump relay for 10 secs then open the bleeder on the modulator. Messy if you haven't got the special the bar bleeder tool.
daveb47 Posted November 13, 2013 Author Posted November 13, 2013 Well we sorted the sticky throttle,Removed it Good clean with carb cleaner. New gasket made But carbon wasnt problem, the screw that sets throttle stop was loose allowing butterfly to jam in housing, set this to correct clearance and locked it.Problem solvedDoes anyone know if radio aerial is electric at all or could basic one be fitted.? Next job is change antifreeze,i have 5 litres that i bought for estima and never used.
