Cavcraft Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Anyone know if the Bosch fuel pump off a 1.9 DW8 engine will fit onto a 1.9 XUD with a Lucas pump? YOLO etc!
Partridge Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Fit one and see what happens? ...what could go wrong?
Micrashed Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Pretty sure only the bottom end is shared between the two donkeys, ancillaries are swappable as I fitted a starter off an XUD Citroen to a mates DW8 pug but really wouldnt like to say about the fuel pump. You would need to swap the injectors too though scruff 1
Cavcraft Posted October 24, 2013 Author Posted October 24, 2013 Thanks, M. I'll have both full set ups if it goes ahead, so injector swapping shouldn't be a problem. I've been offered a TD with the 'wrong' pump, and rather than take the one off mum/a XUD I'd rather take the estate (DW8) off as the car is probably going to get binned soon anyhow
Partridge Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 are they both leccy injected though? The XUD can't be can it?The DW8 lump in my Xsara is electromaconically injected.
Micrashed Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 If anyone would know the Doc would - maybe message him via the DarkSide....Im also fairly sure later DW8 donkeys had teh pump ECU controlled to adjust the fueling in response to all sorts of witchcraft to make the engine "clean" - certainly my DW10 is, though thats a laugh as if you clog it it throws out so much black shit it obscures all three lanes of the M6.
Partridge Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Mine is a 54 plater, and it's a electrically injected engine.Cavette, how old is the DW8 engine you have?
Cavcraft Posted October 24, 2013 Author Posted October 24, 2013 98 or 99 I think. I don't have to use that engine, it's just that it'll be easier to use that rather the XUD for the moment. M: cheers I'll get hold of him on BXP.
Partridge Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 I've done some google-fu and early DW8s were not eletricly ('scuse the spelling, I'm knackered, cba to check it) injected, but later ones were. And yours is a very early one. (I think they came out in 97/98)
Lacquer Peel Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 You'll need a turbo pump for the 1.9TD. I think the ECU and electronic control on DW8s is for emissions rather than for any fancy stuff, they look very similar to XUDs and are old school indirect injection diesels. I've heard of people swapping DW8 Delphi pumps out for XUD Bosch pumps.
Station Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 If you head down to HK breakers in Clywd, they have DW8 and XUD side by side, with different pumps (Lucas and Bosch). Cavcraft 1
meggersdog Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Stop control is wired to the immobilizer on DW8.The fuel feed pipe is different from the Lucas to the Bosch.Might need to change the banjo and reroute the pipe.
Cavcraft Posted October 24, 2013 Author Posted October 24, 2013 Thankyou. Tbh it just sounds like a 'mare really. I'd like the poke of the TD but being veg oil friendly is more important to me. I did read somewhere on the 306OC that's it's possible to lob a 2.1 in. There's some kerfuffle pissing about with the manifold or something, but if I'm going to convert it I reckon a 2.1 is the way to go. It must be a right old laugh, especially if they're tweakable. tooSavvy 1
Cavcraft Posted November 3, 2013 Author Posted November 3, 2013 Right, same sort of question, different day. What fuel pump is this, please? Thanks in advance etc.
Partridge Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 That looks quite new? Could be a chinky "Dingshung" one I fitted to a mate's Pug this week.Or if you mean what kind of pump, they call it a 'bulb' pump.
Cavcraft Posted November 3, 2013 Author Posted November 3, 2013 Hey?I meant is it Lucas or Bosch. Not Len Hatred Lacquer Peel I love Scotland Alex Salmond horse train I have shit taste in cars! Partridge 1
Partridge Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Just thinking it looks very new?It may sound obvious but have you had a good look to see if it says who made it on the pump itself? Do you know the part number, you could google it.
Partridge Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 just googled BOSCH fuel pump, and yup, looks like Scruff is right.
Cavcraft Posted November 3, 2013 Author Posted November 3, 2013 WINNAH! Cheers, Scruff. AP: I couldn't look because it's not my car and I'm nowhere near it's location. Yet. Partridge 1
Lacquer Peel Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 What car is it Cav? I'LL FIGHT YOU FOR IT.
Cavcraft Posted November 3, 2013 Author Posted November 3, 2013 Only if you promise to wear an Alex Salmond mask, so I can mix business with pleasure at the same time. Also when you beat me I'll tell everyone you were mob handed and it was a racist attack because I said you were Scotch, then I'll issue various threats on the internet, none of which I will carry out. It's a ZX. How fucking SWISH is that?
Lacquer Peel Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 It's okay, we'll soon be shot of you lot. Class, I'd love a ZX TD with a Bosch pump. Cavcraft 1
Cavcraft Posted November 3, 2013 Author Posted November 3, 2013 Erm, yeah, I'm sort of planning on bum raping it for the engine. The plan being some crazy three way swap, where the hatch gets the TD, the estate gets the n/a and the ZX gets the DW, then sold on. So it'll probably never happen.
