Magnum P.I.

Just caught the end of this on ITV4 and he was driving an Audi 5000 for some reason.

I think the Ferrari had been involved in an incident earlier in the episode.

Just checked.

Higgins, the caretaker, crashed it in a previous ep.

Thankfully, I think this was before the following happened...

During model years 1983–1987, Audi's U.S. sales fell after a series of recalls of Audi 5000 models[22] associated with reported incidents of sudden unintended acceleration linked to six deaths and 700 accidents...source wikipedia.

The Audi 'Robin 2' was first used in Episode 1.03.

Then again in Ep 1.04, where it blows up (you only see the explosion, not the car exploding).

Ep 1.16, only briefly in Robin Masters' estate.

Ep 2.08, Mad Buck Gibson steals the Ferrari, and Magnum chases in the Audi.

Ep 2.14, where it was again used in a chase scene, becoming airborne.

Ep 2.20, where it is used by Magnum for surveillance work, because he finds the 'rari too uncomfortable to spend an entire night in.

I'm sure the car is visible more often throughout the series and in fact several different cars were used, at least two, a 1980 and a 1982.

I just listed the episodes in which - to my knowledge -  it actually played an active role.

I think it is used by John Hillerman's character quite frequently and thus makes many cameo appearances.

A Jeep Wagoneer turns up in a few eps. complete with wood grained side panels

A '63 Imperial is blown up in the trailer of each and every episode.

This has eradicated the population of surviving '63 Imperials to practically zero.

ROBIN2 later became a C3 audi and ROBIN3 was a GMC Jimmy.

In a flashback Magnum is shown driving his own VW Beetle before he moved onto the estate.

IIRC his Beetle was a battered early 60s Cabriolet in a blue version of Pogweasel Pink with a brown primered driver's door, mismatched wheels, and missing running boards, no?

All Beetles are shit boxes, so that alone is not an identifying feature for a particular one.

I've been watching the dvd box set for the last few months at work, on series 7 at the moment, Rick drove a Merc SL, there was one episode where a client of Magnums drove a battered Jap car, I think it was a Honda, it's a real odd ball motor but I can't remember what it was now, I keep thinking it's a z600 or something.

In the Episode "All Roads Lead to Floyd"?

The car belonged to Floyd (Noah Berry, of Rockford's Files fame). He abandoned the car and Magnum drove it?

Beige?

That was a Honda N600.

I take it your a bit of a fan then Junkman, what's your favourite episode? I watched Laura last night with Frank Sinatra, that was a good one, you can't beat a bit of Genesis either which was played in the background (much like Death and taxes IIRC)

Deja Vu, spread over two episodes in Season 6.

Magnum and Higgins travel to England and things become pear shaped, as usual.

Julian Glover plays an English inspector or something and Arthur English a newsagent.

A total roffler all the way.

There's some pretty shite cars too in that episode like that Jag that he can forsee and I remember a scene with him doing laps of a roundabout with lots of 80's tat around him, I'm sure a Mk2 Cavalier features too.

I used to watch the early morning re-runs of it during the school holidays years back. Great show that I'll have to revisit.

I remember Higgins driving a Reliant Rialto in that one lest I am confused.

Same footage was used in an episode of Airwolf. Sad that I a) recognised the footage and b remembered recognising it.

Your right about the Rialto, he drove that when he goes to see his dad, I did have a little laugh at that!
