thinking of selling the renault

After discussions with my wife last night we came to the conclusion of selling the scenic and buying an older car as the two most reliable cars we had was our Mazda 323 and my reliant. Just curious as to what you fine folks suggest. The car must be an estate or large hatch, preferably diesel but won't discount petrols. Easy to work on and get parts for. My thoughts are cavalier diesel or petrol if relatively economical. My old 2.0 was quiet good on fuel. Also a Peugeot 405 or rover 418 estate diesel. My wife has seen a t plate skoda octavia 1.8 20v non turbo she likes too but I'm unsure on it. Only thing that concerns me is corrosion on a older car but pugs seem to hold out quiet well. Thanks in advance

Now that would corrode I'd have though. And won't parts be a swine? Are they o series diesels in them?

C5 suspension worries me!! Never thought of primera. Do like mazdas though. What's corrosion like on the 626 as the arches were starting on my 323

Why is it always said that an old car will corrode. If it's lasted this long, it's obviously been well looked after. All you have to do is to continue in the same vein.

That is a good point but I don't fancy repairing other folks bodges as not everyone is honest.

I Like the toyota Dave but I doubt the wife will. What's mpg like just out of curiosity

How about a Citroen ZX diesel estate? A very simple car, nearly 50mpg or a turbo diesel like mind 45mpg? Big boot but now getting hard to find in good condition.

306 diesel estate. Ideally in green.

My mate bought an old Triumph once and thought exactly that. How very wrong he was.

I dont know if Its shite enough but my current daily is a 2002 Mondeo with the TDDI

I know the TDCi can be truly awful reliability wise but the oul TDDi is pretty tough, it tows well and does everything I can throw at it.

Don't the zx have a suspension setup on the back that causes problems? I like the 306 but ideally want larger size car. Quiet like the sound of the toyota

Show me a trace of rust on my 405. Holds true for the other two I had before.

A sub frame that needs its rubber bushes not broken, but not too bad to change if you buy one thats needs doing.

Honda Accord Estate?

Not had many problems with mine since we got it. Only once did it fail to proceed when a ball joint collapsed, but to be fair I should have heeded the warning signs/noises earlier.

170,000 miles and all still good. No rust either!

Earlier ones seem pretty reliable and cheap ish to buy.

My wife pointed one of them out to me yesterday for sale. A 2.0 vtec auto. Looked nice and dont seem to fetch as much as civics, probably due to bad boiz wanting a type r replica!
