You have no doubt been on tender hooks ever since I dropped that brilliant cliffhanger that I just part ex'd the Corolla for a 30 year old sports car. So, grab your red braces, 5kg mobile phone and Vote Thatcher stickers as I present to you my new 944

Good points:

It's a Porsche. That means I can get a badge on my keys, which I'll casually put on my desk and mention that I thought I'd drive the Porsche to work today.

New MOT

It looks awesome. Put a private plate on and most non car people wouldn't think it was 30 years old

Since it's the 944 I won't get any "hilarious" VW van engine jokes

Runs well and is nice to drive (although would probably be outrun by most modern diesel repmobiles.

Not good points:

The windows and blower don't work. In this weather that's kindof a problem

Rev counter doesn't work either

Doubt I'll keep it for that long, but it's another one off the buckets list. What's the worst that could happen etc etc etc?

It's lovely, but you know it'll be a lot faster after you added some stripes.

I'm hoping it did come with a roof, or was that part of the haggling deal? Nice buy though. Look forward to reading more.

Looks Great!!

ive always had a hankering for one of these. A patient of mine took me for a spin in a 944 turbo years ago, bloody scary. I think they look perfect in white, so 80s

Lovely!  I've owned two of these and they are as good as you'd hope they would be :)  Check the inner and outer sills by removing the plastic vent in the door shut and shining a torch in there.

Sadly you'll still get the 'poor man's Porker' jokes but these people know nothing.  A good 944 is better than a shonky 911 in every possible way..

You dont need a Rev counter.

It has all the Revs.

That looks really good, I'd get any faults ironed out and keep it. Should imagine it likes a drink tho....

Epic.

Much love for the 944.

Mine does just under 30mpg, check my fuelly to see it excitingly do 32mpg on one occasion!

Do you get poor man's Porsche jokes with these? As well as the 924?

So what exactly is a rich man's Porsche? :)

Really like these, I think they look a lot more balanced than a 911 of that era which was still desperately trying to throw off it's Beetle fancy-dress outfit. I'd like both, as a comparison tool naturally, but if I could only put one of them in a glass box in my garden and look at it - it'd be the 944.

Coolio! Always wanted one of these so will look forward to reading more about your adventures in this one.

Lovely 944... The prices of these seem to have started creeping up, so I suspect the timing of your purchase was right !

So what exactly is a rich man's Porsche? :)

A 'rich man's Porsche' is a shonky 930 with fibreglass 964 bumpers, fake turbo twist wheels, Emmental-cheese kidney bowls and a NI plate... Owners of such wonderful* machines have every right to look down on front-engined Porsches !

I've had a couple of square dash 944s and loved them both. Enjoy it, they do feel pretty special, especially when you look in the mirror and see those lovely big arches.

I'm still chasing a misfire on my 2.0 924, but despite that it's settled on 35mpg on my commute.  The 944 is more of a looker than a 924 IMHO, but I thought the simpler 924 would be more sensible as a daily driver

The Porsche 928 is terrifying, yet oddly alluring. It's like spending the night with that Jo Frost Supernanny woman

Love the 1980's anarchic sitcom reference.

Top bombing with the 944.
