New used car drama

I've had a few VWs and all gave me more trouble than my Citroen BXs. As a result, I don't buy German cars any more.

Yesterday, I looked at a Mazda 6. Very beautiful and comfortable car, I really liked it. But sadly it was already quite rusty (8 years old) and a diesel, so I did not think about buying it really.

After that, I found this 2002 Toyota Camry 2,4 Automatic by accident. Liked it a lot, sadly it´s rusty underneath and badly repainted on the left side. Too expensive too, but I made an offer. If the dealer is quite right in the head, he will accept it and do a quick deal. If not, he should become a cook or a paviour, but not a car-dealer.

Rust is a common problem on these Mazdas, that one doesn't look anywhere near as bad as some of them out there.

I can't see the appeal of VWs & Audis either. In my world they're hopelessly unreliable, expensive to run and very ordinary to drive. BMWs are at least nice cars to drive (so long as they've got decent engines in them).

Got to say I've been pleasantly surprised by my old Merc, a '96 "Worst car Mercedes ever made" E class and in the 18 months I've had it it's been fine.

What about an older Volvo S/V 70? The pre '97 ones didn't have all the ETM/ECU shit that the later ones had, and are a lot better for it IMO.

I really have to say I liked the Mazda 6 quite a lot, but sadly all five of them at the dealers used car lot had more or less badly "repaired" rear arches because of rust. The shown example above is a 2005 with 102.000km on the clock and is for sale for 6900 Euro. A bit much for a car where you can see the rust at first sight.
