Rovers' return - pic heavy.

This is my SD1 - it is a VDP EFi that used to belong to Pete M.

Purchased by me as a project due to the sills being rotten.post-4771-0-56187600-1374431024_thumb.jpg

Looks tidy in the photograph. Black with caramel leather, rimmer exhaust and £££££ spent on mechanical parts.

Both sills were knackered, with the inners also having suffered.

The picture with the sill bent outward shows an utter abortion of a repair - instead of a full sill it has been given a repair section - the front of which was held on with a solitary tack weld - as the panel overlapped it was easily spotted as a step in the filler.post-4771-0-25188600-1374431145_thumb.jpg

This lump of filler was part of the rear arch - it had fingerprints in it.

post-4771-0-53308000-1374431377_thumb.jpgOnce the front wing was removed it revealed a rotten inner arch. Rather than replace I opted to repair it as I got the zintec for nothingpost-4771-0-40742800-1374431446_thumb.jpgpost-4771-0-81281600-1374431537_thumb.jpg

I had replaced both sills by this point (pics to follow when I locate them!), and repaired the inners with 16 swg zintec - thicker than the OE panels and much cheaper ie nothing.. Unbelievably, there had never been even an advisory on the MOT for corrosion, which had expired 8 weeks earlier.

Will post more soon - when I first got into SD1's I was told there was no such thing as a cheap one. Having had four I can confirm it's true.

I didn't think those things rotted that badly   then again it is a rover

Look forward to seeing the job done.

Oh yes, they do rot. That means it's pretty easy to get repair sections though!

Glad to see the return of this one. It caused much drooling before and no doubt will again.

That looks real classy in black with leather interior, and well worth putting right. Good luck.
