Having a crack in me old yarmouth's cylinder head didn't give me a funny, but, such is shite life, eh?

Surely you've more chance of finding Princess Diana straddling Shergar whilst racing Madeleine McCann through the local scrapyard than a Tagora.

I'd have thought that you'd be needing a trip to France really.

Oooh oooh, me me!

Would the head off of this do?

That's a Bagheera, so, no.

One sold for 89 quid on eBay in April.

Hmm, I'm sure I was told it was a Matra of some sort, but there was little of it left for me to recognise.

Here you go:

I also sent an email to a friend in Oireland (Republic of, loike) who happens to know a Tagora Guru.

Another member of my network came back with this:

N7 AUTO PIECES

124, route de Lyon

03400 Yzeure

Tél. : 04 70 20 94 47

Fax : 04 70 20 48 93

It's a scrapyard with oodles of 80s tin and they parted out a gazillion of Tagoras.

And yes, a 505 head will fit, if you can find a 2.2 GTI to part out.

Two questions, if I may:

- What's wrong with the head you have?

- Isn't it time to think about inserting a V6?

Yes, a Matra Bagheera.  The engine is not the same.

505 Turbo (codes N9T and N9TEA) heads can be used,  slight differences in the valves, but perfectly interchangeable.

Peugeot used the old Simca engine for the 505 Turbos cause their own straight 4 fell apart with the turbo fitted.

Head cracked - needs replacing.

Repair not an option? Some engine places specialise in repairing cracked heads.

505 turbo yes, 505 GTI no (that is a Douvrin engine).

Repair iffy - you have to bore down to see extent of crack.  Cracks in two places very close to valves.
