Charlie Croker Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Hi guys. Like I said above the thing lights up the dash but when you turn the key to start it......nothing at all. No clicking or anything. We bump started it and away it went. Stopped it and the same is happening??? Any ideas guys? Thanks Charlie.
retrogeezer Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Without wishing to state the obvious, starter motor or solenoid?
Charlie Croker Posted June 13, 2013 Author Posted June 13, 2013 Aye we thought that bud....we were kinda hoping that it would be a wire off we just didn't know where.lol. Looks like a trip to the scrappy is on the cards.
HillmanImp Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 The ignition switch surround on my Audi broke the other week and was the same symptoms. Thankfully Volksy suggested to look at the switch before I replaced the whole ignition system. Take the switch out of the lock and try turning it with a screwdriver and see if that works.
catsinthewelder Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Can you put 12v direct to the starter with a jump lead to rule that out?
meggersdog Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 do the lights dim when trying to start. If they stay the same brightness then it's more likely an ignition feed problem. The thin wire on the starter is the feed, check power to that first.
Shep Shepherd Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 I had the same problem with The Volvo last summer, which manifested itself when I stopped for food at Blyth Services on the A1 during a long journey (Southend to Leeds). After a couple of minutes of investigation, it turned out that the negative battery lead was slightly loose. I tightened it up and away we went
